In the third installment to Chronicles of Nick, Sherrilyn
Kenyon addresses some old questions, but poses some new
ones as well. As a fifteen year old, Nick must deal with
everyday teenage antics, such as staying out of trouble,
keeping up his grades as well as a steady girlfriend.
However, a far more paranormal element follows over Nick
like a thundercloud surrounding his destiny and his father.
Nick is predestined to bring on the end of the world.
Though this scares him, Nick tries to fight this inborn
evil and believe that he has a choice in how he behaves.
However, when the state of the world is in a fifteen-year-
old's hands, there is bound to be trouble along the way!
There is a lot of focus on what you expect a YA book to
cover. Misunderstandings and conflict between Nick's
mother, Cherise and Nick are prominent and is all part of
the teenage angst. If you also read Kenyon's adult
Paranormal Romance series, the Dark Hunters, then you are
also familiar with how Cherise's character is often
glorified. In this book, you see a little bit of a darker
side of her as well as the sacrifices she had made for her
son. There are quite a few touching moments as well that
will resonate with older audiences.
Kenyon often puts cameos in this series where characters
such as Kyrian and Acheron all make an appearance. I find
that this is a great transition for readers who enjoy YA
and are looking to read more adult titles, as well as adult
readers to find YA books for themselves or their children.
The mythology in Kenyon's book is all encompassing,
allowing her freedom to make certain parts of the world ebb
and flow. With this flexibility, Kenyon has total freedom
to do whatever she wants in her world. That's a sign of
phenomenal worldbuilding.
INFAMOUS pairs high-octane action and a coming-of-age story
with a paranormal twist. This book is sure to entertain
both older and younger audiences alike!
The world has fallen in love with Nick Gautier and the Dark- Hunters. Now Nick’s saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume... Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That’s the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn’t the average teenager. He’s a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him. He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so dang hard? But that isn’t the primary skill he has to master. Survival is. And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known. Or he’ll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he’ll lose everyone he cares about. Even himself.
