Cassiel was cast out of the Djinn for refusing to follow
Ashan's order to kill all of humanity. Now, with the aid of
Luis Rocha, she battles to save humankind from the evil that
exists in the world. Pearl was also a djinn but she flouted
the rules until she was to be killed. A spark of her
remained and she fed off the power of the humans. Now, she
has recruited children to her cause and they will try to
destroy the earth.
Cassiel must do what she can to prevent Pearl from
destroying everything she loves. As they fight to save the
wardens and the earth, Cassiel will be forced to work with
Pearl and her children.
In the final battle, Cassiel will be forced to take steps
that she vowed never to take. In so doing, she will see the
total destruction of Pearl and her ambitions. However, her
actions will have long term consequences for the rest of
humanity.
Rachel Caine writes such compelling stories that it is
really hard to do a synopsis of her books. Events happen so
quickly and are of such magnitude that it isn't possible to
do them justice in a few lines.
This seems to be the final chapter in the Weather Warden and
Outcast series but one never knows. These books will suck
you into an alternate world in which no one lives a truly
normal life. Wardens minimize the effects of violent
weather, heal the sick, and work with some of the Djinn to
prevent the downfall of mankind.
It's fascinating to enter the world she has created. You see
the characters as flawed but with good intentions, working
to save the world they love.
I highly recommend this series.
For millennia, Cassiel was a powerful Djinn-until she was exiled to live among mortals. Now the threat of an apocalypse looms, and Cassiel is in danger of losing everything she has come to hold dear... As the world begins to fall apart around her, Cassiel finds herself fighting those she once called her own-the Djinn. With Weather Warden Luis Rocha and the rescued child Ibby by her side, Cassiel struggles to find a way to protect those that are in her charge and come to terms with the leadership role she never asked for. Cassiel is opposed by a powerful Djinn bent on raising an army of kidnapped Warden children to bring about nothing less than the end of the world. It will take everything Cassiel has to stop the Djinn from starting a war that will wipe all of humanity from the face of the earth. She knows that this might not be a battle she can survive, but protecting those she loves is worth any cost...
