A remarkable story of love, tragedy, and humor; MIDNIGHT'S
WILD PASSION is one not to miss. The story is about Antonia
and Nicholas, two more unlikely people to fall in love than
I have ever read about. The personality clashes were
hilarious and I really loved how Antonia managed to always
put Nicholas in his place. While the two have verbal battle
after verbal battle it is clear that their interests have
been sparked by the other. The sparks were as hot as the
romance which only added another element to the story. The
more Antonia fought the harder Nicholas tried; it seemed
that no matter where she turned he was there with a smile
to taunt her. And I absolutely loved every minute of it!
Anna Campbell has written a fascinating story that kept me
laughing, crying, and turning the pages for each new spar.
The Marquess of Ranelaw never expected to have his revenge
handed to him quite so nicely. It seems that revenge on
Godfrey Demarest has all but appeared right before his very
eyes. When Demarest shunned his pregnant sister this past
season, Nicholas began plotting the perfect revenge. And
really courting Demarest's sister should be all too easy.
Yes, all too easy for a rake like him to ruin one girl,
with one little exception...her chaperone. A bulldog in
disguise! How can one woman be so infuriating, yet it seems
that her disguise has captivated Ranelaw. Never has he met
a woman who was not starry eyed over his attentions. Yet
Antonia Smith remains aloof, uncharmed, and thwarts his
plans at every turn. Why is it that he finds her a
mysterious and strangely erotic package that he longs to
unravel?
For ten years the Lady Antonia Hilliard has been hiding.
She has been hiding behind glasses, plain clothes, and a
prickly demeanor. As the chaperone for her cousin,
Cassandra, Antonia has transformed herself into the
shrewish Antonia Smith. Disowned by her father Antonia
learned the hard way why chaperones were a necessity.
Protecting Cassandra from the rakes of the world has become
her only goal. Quarrels with Nicholas Challoner, the
Marquess of Ranelaw, seem to be her only distraction. Not
that she can escape him, oh no there is no running from the
Marquess. He seems to find a way into windows, locked
rooms, and moonlit pathways wherever she is. The more time
Antonia seems to spend with Ranelaw the more she feels her
life crashing down around her. Is Ranelaw's attention all
for show just to get to her cousin? Or does his interest in
Antonia lie solely with the woman he knows lies beneath her
scratchy surface?
The dashing, licentious Marquess of Ranelaw can never
forgive Godfrey Demarest for ruining his sister -- now the
time has come to repay the villain in the same coin. But one
formidably intriguing impediment stands in the way of
Nicholas's vengeance: Miss Antonia Smith, companion to his
foe's unsuspecting daughter.
Having herself been deceived and disgraced by a rogue --
banished by her privileged family as a result and forced to
live a lie -- Antonia vows to protect her charge from the
same cruel fate. She recognizes Ranelaw for the shameless
blackguard that he is and will devote every ounce of her
intelligence and resolve to thwarting him.
Yet Antonia has always had a fatal weakness for rakes. . .
I loved all of Anna's books. This book is awesome and, the review is brilliant. Always a winner when Anna writes a book. (Diane Diamond 11:40am June 26, 2011)
