Mystery Amateur Sleuth

Just when attorney-pet sitter-murder magnet Kendra Ballantyne has decided to go for it and move in with her boyfriend, PI Jeff Hubbard, the man just disappears. Kendra is notified by an acquaintance on the LAPD that Jeff's Escalade was found in an aqueduct canal just west of Palmdale, a community that is north of Los Angeles. Kendra refuses to accept that Jeff is dead, and won't accept it until his body is produced. She begins her own investigation after calling Jeff's mother, Irene, an ex- exotic pole dancer. Irene tells Kendra that a woman named Lois lives in the area where Jeff's car was found. Lois was also a pole dancer and good friend, and Jeff considers Lois his "other mother". With this lead Kendra heads for Ontario, California to interview Lois. Lois confesses that she called Jeff and asked him to look into an animal cloning company that killed her precious part-Akita, Flisa. Lois had taken Flisa to The Clone Arranger, paid them a lot of money, and then they told her they were unable to clone her pet, and was sorry to tell her Flisa died. Lois is convinced they killed her sweet, sweet dog. Not long after Kendra's meeting with Lois, one of the employees at The Clone Arranger is found dead shortly after a heated argument with Lois, and the police consider her the prime suspect in the matter. On top of looking for Jeff and helping Lois out of a mess, Kendra has her legal clients that need her help and her pet sitting clients. This lady is spread way too thin! Linda O. Johnston is an incredible writer who creates believable, intelligent characters. DOUBLE DOG DARE has a fun-filled-suspense storyline that contains intrigue, mystery, murder, lots and lots of animals, and humor. Ms. Johnston's wit, pacing, and dialogue make this cozy entry into the "Pet-Sitter" series a sure fire winner.
