Romance Historical

Lady Portia, sister to a debt ridden duke, is an expert at chasing off unwanted suitors her family keeps pushing at her. Portia's family, desperate for funds, finally sends her to a wealthy family in the countryside. No one thinks to mention to Portia that the current earl refuses to marry due to a history of madness in his family. After seeing the isolation, Portia likes the idea of hiding away in the country, and she informs the earl of her conviction never to marry. Portia seeks independence and scorns women who look to men for their happiness.

Heath, the Earl of Moreton, wishes to end his family line by never marrying. His grandmother ignores his dictates and continues to manipulate him by bringing eligible ladies to their home. Heath sends them fleeing with his snarls and bad behavior. After witnessing his parents and one brother's descent into insanity, Heath despairs at any future for himself or his sisters. Growling to frighten the newest bridal candidate, Heath discovers he may have met his match. This lady snarls back.

Portia feels an unwanted attraction to the "Beast." Attempting to ignore it, Portia continues verbally sparing with Heath until she decides to follow her heart's yearning. Now, she must convince Heath to take a chance at love.

Ms. Jordan provides readers with strong characters in a lively and entertaining romance. Watching Heath and Portia clash and the unexpected way they resolve their conflict is a real pleasure.

SUMMARY

Would a Reluctant Beauty Ever Wed…

Headstrong Lady Portia Derring has an impeccable pedigree… and not a penny to her name. Which is why she is alone on the rain-swept Yorkshire moor, waiting for a wealthy earl she has never met but whom her family insists she wed. When she’s nearly trampled by the dashing blackguard’s stallion, Portia is more determined than ever to refuse Heath Moreton’s suit. Handsome devil he may be, but she could never marry a rogue who’s so clearly out of control!

A Wild, Incorrigible Beast?

An avowed bachelor, scion of the notorious “Mad” Moreton clan, Heath won’t be shackled in matrimony. Why then does this lovely, rain-drenched chit excite him so? Desire consumes him, but the eminently beddable lady resists his well-practiced seductions. Now only one route remains: Heath must ignore his bad blood, vanquish his inner beast… and prove to Portia that she's the only woman capable of taming his heart.
