Romance Contemporary

Calder Griffin needs to get back in shape. Sidelined last season by a knee injury, he's determined to return to the San Diego Barracudas and play the best hockey of his career. This might even be the year he gets out of his talented older brother's shadow.

For months, Becca Chen has poured her energy into Cups, the restaurant she owns, desperate to prove to her parents that she can succeed in the career of her choice, not theirs. But after she spends a five-hour plane ride flirting with charming, magic-on-the-ice Calder, she tells herself she needs a fling.

Becca and Calder can't keep their hands off each other, but they know the relationship can't last. They live on opposite coasts, and they're both too devoted to their careers. All they have to do is prevent their feelings from crossing the line from lust to love…

See how Calder's teammate Tim found love in ON THE SURFACE.

Across the Line, please
(Deborah Close 12:10pm August 13, 2014)

Any of these books sound great!!!! I'd love to be surprised! Thanks!!!!
(
Bonnie Capuano 9:21am August 13, 2014)

Cute scene, Kate! I can tell you totally enjoyed writing these books.
I love realistic guy-banter, and one of my favorite movies to show that (believe it or not) was Lone Survivor. Their horsing around helped me get through the otherwise incredibly intense movie.
(
Lynne Marshall 10:56am August 13, 2014)

Congratulations on your new release! It sounds like a fun book. Thanks for sharing the great excerpt.
(
Bonnie H 11:21am August 13, 2014)

Good luck, Deborah and Bonnie C.!

Thanks, Lynne! I'll have to check that movie out.

Bonnie H., it's a super-fun book, in my very subjective opinion. That's not even the end of the prank. The guys decide Fishy's not quite convinced, so they go a little bit farther. LOL
(
Kate Willoughby 12:36pm August 13, 2014)

I do love these boys, but I feel terrible for Fischer. I hope he gets his revenge next season. (Or next book!) LOL. Congrats on the new release! Great read!
(
Dee J Adams 1:08pm August 13, 2014)

Sizzling covers.....oh la la....
Congratulations on your release!
(
Lisa Hutson 1:21pm August 13, 2014)

I have been reading more sports romances... liking the sound of yours... thanks for sharing!
(
Colleen Conklin 1:28pm August 13, 2014)

Dee J., Fishy's so young and green. We'll see. LOL Revenge would be funny.

Lisa, thanks! I love my covers. Carina Press has great cover artists.

Colleen, I hope you'll give my books a try.
(
Kate Willoughby 1:30pm August 13, 2014)

A bit of little boy in a hot man makes him that much hotter, right? Love your hockey romance and your love affair with hockey, Kate!
(
Kady Winter 2:16pm August 13, 2014)

I sure think so, Kady! Thanks for stopping by!

L Lam, I hope you decide to try a hockey romance. Hockey is the best sport in the world, for so many reasons. I'd tell you all of them, but it would take too long!! LOL
(
Kate Willoughby 4:05pm August 13, 2014)

(
Beth Elder 7:21am August 14, 2014)

Some more hockey books. I love it. Thanks
(
Debra Guyette 7:26am August 14, 2014)

With hockey players, their pranks are a great way for them
to let off some steam, as well as do their initiations!!
That was a great excerpt, and I'm looking forward to reading
your books!! It sort of reminds me of the movie Slapstick -
revisited!! Congratulations on your book, and growing up
learning to love hockey through my Dad, I know I'll love
your books!!
(
Peggy Roberson 8:50am August 14, 2014)

Holly and Debra, good to meet more hockey fans!!!

Thanks, Tammy! I love the cover a lot. I love the Carina Press cover artists.

Aw, Peggy, you're so sweet. Have you seen the movie Goon? You MUST rent it.
MUST.

Pat, thank you so much, but I have to tell you, I am a Kings fan. LOL I respect the
Ducks. LOVE Teemu and was so sad to see him retire.
(
Kate Willoughby 5:41pm August 14, 2014)

Bottlegate? I love it.
I would love to read a story of the silly side of hockey. Have to look this one up!
(
Lisa Hutson 12:56pm August 15, 2014)

Lisa, hockey is a very serious sport, but the guys sure know how to have fun. If
you don't win the giveaway, I hope you pick up a copy yourself. :)
(
Kate Willoughby 1:23am August 15, 2014)

I really enjoy sports themed stories!
(
Diane Sallans 9:33pm August 15, 2014)

Hi Kate! I watched a couple of the prank videos. LOL

I've already read both of your books and loved the tie prank on Fishy! Poor thing. :D
(
Marcy Shuler 10:40pm August 15, 2014)

Oh, good, Diane! I got hooked on sports romance by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
books. And Rachel Gibson. Can't forget Rachel Gibson!
(
Kate Willoughby 1:27am August 16, 2014)

Thanks, Marcy!! I'm so glad you liked the books. Poor Fishy indeed! I could just
picture the kid wincing every time he went to put it on. LOL
(
Kate Willoughby 1:28am August 16, 2014)

Great excerpt Kate,
I LOVE a hero with a sense of humor!
Now I gotta get te book to see what happens with the "lucky" tie .
(
Mina Gerhart 9:33am August 16, 2014)

(
Toni Whitmire 12:12pm August 16, 2014)

I would love to win!
(
Karen Mikusak 4:41pm August 16, 2014)

Reminds me of the snappy dialogue in Draft Day. I like a good
sport or having a sporting chance at a book.
(
Alyson Widen 4:51pm August 16, 2014)

bring on the goodies kate.
(
Jeannie Murphy 5:48pm August 16, 2014)

Mina, oh, what I shared here is definitely not the end of the tie prank.

Thank you, Toni! I think/hope the rest of the book is pretty good too. ;)

Then good luck to you, Karen!

Alyson, you mean Draft Day the movie?

Jeannie, the goodies await! I hope you win the book so you can see for yourself!
(

(
Mary McCoy 5:22am August 17, 2014)

(

I would love to win. Thanks for a chance.
(
Linda Hall 11:49pm August 17, 2014)

Lisa, I tend to agree. I like starting at the beginning with series, but I HAVE
started in the middle before and not really suffered too much. Depends on the
author.

Good luck, Linda!
(
Kate Willoughby 1:47am August 18, 2014)

Only been to 2 hockey games in Providence, RI but I never would have
guessed they had a fun side. Both stories sound good.
(
Zina Lynch 1:40pm August 18, 2014)

The hockey games themselves...intense, serious, sometimes funny. What I like to
show in my books is the behind the scenes stuff you don't see on TV or at the
arena. There are pranks and hockey fun to be had in both books. :)
(
Kate Willoughby 7:05pm August 18, 2014)

love sports romance books
(
Emily Stemp 7:19pm August 18, 2014)

Great sharing! Can't wait to read both books.

Any of these. Thanks for the chance to win :)
(
Leah Maciel 3:42pm August 25, 2014)

I love watching hockey in person, but not so much on the TV.
Not sure why. However, I did not know they like to play
pranks but I can certainly see why. I have read one of your
books and found it to be funny and very witty. I would not
mind having both but either one would be nice. I have not
read them yet. Thank you for the chance to win and keep
giving use those wonderful stories.
(
Tina Ullrich 12:32pm August 26, 2014)

I would love a chance read one of your books. Thank you so much for the chance to win. Good luck everyone.
(
Renae Kelly 10:57pm August 29, 2014)

Being a sports orphan, I would go for either/any book.

Although I am wondering - Why no books about Roller Derby? It has a lot in common with hockey!

Later,

Lynn
(

Love to win thanks
(
Lilian Gamble 11:58pm August 30, 2014)

(
Jayne Cameron 11:15am August 31, 2014)

Wow, I’ve been remiss! Look at all the unanswered comments!

Mary, Ron, Ashley, Susan, Angie, Leah, Patricia, Ann, Cindy, Kent, Kelly, Jayne if
you don’t end up winning, I hope you’ll try one of the books anyway. ☺

Rita, hockey heroes are the BEST. I love writing about the brotherhood of their
teams, their maleness, their old-fashioned values, their sexiness. The list goes on
and on. I especially enjoy writing what I like to call uncensored man banter—the
type of thing they say in the locker room to each other when we women aren’t
around.

Sandra, I am a hockey FANATIC, but I’m monogamous. LOL

Sharon, you simply MUST try a hockey romance. Doesn’t have to be mine. I cut
my teeth on Rachel Gibson’s Chinook series. However, I have to say, I include
more actual hockey than a lot of hockey romances I’ve read.

Deborah, you and me both, sister. Have you ever seen that picture of Joffrey
Lupul in the ESPN Body Issue? To die for.

Tina, I’m so glad you enjoyed one of my books. I like watching hockey any which
way, but I still don’t know as much as I ought, so I like how on TV they educate
you a little with the replays—at least Jim Fox does for the Kings games.

Laurie, I watched a college game here in my area when the evil evil lockout was
going on a couple of years ago. It was fun!

Lynn, I know the name of a roller derby book. I’ll get back to you here with the
title.

Elaine, the Zamboni is the name of the machine. Someday, I’d love to ride on it.
(
Kate Willoughby 11:30am August 31, 2014)

I would love to read your books. They have everything you
need for a great read. Sports and men! Woohoo!
(
Denise Austin 12:40pm August 31, 2014)

Sounds like a great read Would love to read it!
(
Teresa Stebbins 5:59pm August 31, 2014)

I agree, Denise. I love me a good sports romance.

Good luck, Teresa!!!
