Young Adult

In 1941 London, fifteen year old Maggie Leigh learns that war really can be hell. Most children have already been evacuated from the city. During the height of the blitz, Maggie is still living in the heart of London, taking care of her disabled mother. When a bomb explodes close to home, Maggie's mother decides to send her away- to a secluded boarding school in rural Whales. Although sad to leave her mother, Maggie is relieved to escape the dismal, depressing life of wartime London. That relief quickly turns to fear when Maggie arrives at the school, which is far from the haven she imagined. After discovering a dying German soldier on the beach, Maggie learns the school is hiding some serious secrets. Together with three other teenage girls, Maggie flees the school, and embarks on a harrowing journey back to London. Not all the girls survive the trip.
