I live in a rural area of southeast Michigan, on a small farm with horses, chickens, cats, and dogs. I’m lucky enough to be a full-time writer, and with my two daughters grown I don’t have to worry about school schedules and activities. I write whenever I want to, which often means late at night. You’ve gotta love a job you can do in your jammies with a bowl of popcorn beside you!
I write romance novels because I love to read them! For years I dismissed them as junk-food literature (shows how stupid I was – who doesn’t like junk food?) until I finally paid attention and discovered the truth – romance novels are about strong, passionate women who are smart and resourceful. Best of all, they often have that most important survival tool—a wicked sense of humor. Those were the heroines worth writing about!
My path to success was a bit unusual – my publisher found my entry in a contest and offered to buy the book. That was LIE TO ME, from Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books. For other aspiring authors out there, I urge you to join RWA – Romance Writers of America – both the national organization and a local chapter if there is one near you. I can think of no better way to learn the business of writing.
