J.D. Robb returns with another much anticipated and exciting installment to the In Death series. For fans who are longtime lovers of the power couple that is Eve and Roarke, there’s a lot to get excited about in PAYBACK IN DEATH!
Exploring their past has been interesting but with a vacation to Greece followed by a family visit in Ireland, we get to see Eve and Roarke in a different light once again. I love moments like these because we can see the romance shine through. And as a Roarke lover, I love getting to see more of his family.
However, things quickly change pace when Eve learns that a retired officer is found dead. Although most suspect it’s a suicide, Eve feels like foul play may actually be involved. Robb expertly weaves an excellent mystery, carrying readers through this book with ease.
I found myself amused, intrigued, and mystified many times during this book, so it certainly was a pleasant read. If you’re new to the In Death world, do yourself a favor and start at book one. Despite how daunting it may seem, I have no doubt that you’ll be hooked like me. Robb definitely doesn’t disappoint with PAYBACK IN DEATH.
#1 NYT bestselling author J.D. Robb solves a harrowing case standing for one of her own.
Lt. Eve Dallas is just home from a long overdue vacation when she responds to a call of an unattended death. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, retired Internal Affairs Captain. At first glance, the scene appears to be suicide, but the closer Eve examines the body, the more suspicious she becomes.
An unlocked open window, a loving wife and family, a too-perfect suicide note—Eve's gut says it's a homicide. After all, Greenleaf put a lot of dirty cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. It could very well be payback—and she will not rest until the case is closed.
