Pop Culture reporter Cassie Crow from Chicago is on a tour of Scotland with her best friends. After having a few too many whiskys, she stumbles across a supposed time traveller in Edinburgh Castle, who she recognizes as a shameless internet prankster.... but not before she started GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT.
Logan Reid couldn't resist kissing the unwitting tourist, and he knows she responded to him. But his main thought is getting her to sign a release form so he can use the prank he was secretly filming. Cassie is justifiably furious and there's no way she's going to have her reputation dragged down -- she wants to be a dedicated journalist and the blow to her image could ruin that chance. Logan decides to pursue Cassie -- initially for the signed form, but before too long he's interested in Cassie herself.
Now, realise that this is not a time travel romance, but a contemporary adult romance, and you can visualise where the story is going. Rather quickly, but the characters are mature and consenting, and travel makes life more exciting. Logan turns out to know how to behave like a perfect gentleman and this is what starts to win him some favour.
Janet Reid, Logan's tough sister, is an interesting side character. She's the producer of his net show and she thinks only about the ratings. Making the director part of Logan's family was a great idea by the author Melonie Johnson, as it does away with a lot of creative disputes and jealousies, and in theory, the pair have each other's best interests at heart. Janet has a degree in graphic design and her talents lift the show out of the ordinary. But she is never willing to admit she's wrong.
I recommend this well-researched read, which is a lot more complex than it first appears and takes in London and busy Chicago, in addition to scenic Scotland. As well as a cheeky romance story, Melonie Johnson deftly portrays the pressures on creative artists in GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT.
