Thriller

Jerome Burnet was a hero, a hero that fell greatly. He has just been released from prison and knows someone is coming after him, it's only a matter of time. He goes to Charlie Parker and asks him to find out who wants him dead and why, knowing he may not live to find out the truth. At first Charlie thinks the guy may be crazy, but then he goes missing under suspicious circumstances. As Charlie, Louis and Angle begin to look into it they discover a group of people called The Cut. Dangerous and powerful in a supernatural way that has keep them separate and safe for generations. What I really enjoy about John Connolly's books is how he writes mystery, thriller and supernatural combined. Ever since the character Charlie Parker was revived while dead his abilities to know and communicate with other forces has grown and it gives the story that little extra it needs to make it better than your average thriller. The bad guys in his stories are also a unique level of twisted making reading about them all the more enjoyable and see them defeated in the awesome Charlie Parker way, great. I've read numerous John Connolly books and TIME OF TORMENT is one of, if not my favorite. If you haven't read any of his book you will enjoy this one enough to go back and read more.

SUMMARY

Dangerous and driven private investigator Charlie Parker returns in the latest gripping thriller of internationally bestselling author John Connolly’s series, in which ungodly fears haunt a strange and isolated community. Jerome Burnel was once a hero. He intervened to prevent multiple killings, and in doing so destroyed himself. His life was torn apart. He was imprisoned, brutalized. But in his final days, with the hunters circling, he tells his story to private detective Charlie Parker. He speaks of the girl who was marked for death, but was saved; of the ones who tormented him, and an entity that hides in a ruined stockade. Parker is not like other men. He died, and was reborn. He is ready to wage war. Now he will descend upon a strange, isolated community called the Cut, and face down a force of men who rule by terror, intimidation, and murder. All in the name of the being they serve. All in the name of the Dead King.
