"DEVIL AND THE DEEP reads like a block-buster film."

Romance Military | Romance Suspense

Returning with the second installment in the Deep Six series, Julie Ann Walker thrills and excites with DEVIL AND THE DEEP. Possibly one of the more interesting Romantic Suspense I've read, Walker follows Bran Palladino as he undergoes a rescue mission to retrieve the one woman he can't seem to forget.

Maddy Powers' life is filled with charity events and fundraisers but since that moment Bran and her shared a kiss, her life has gotten so much more complicated. Although you can read this book as a standalone, I would highly suggest reading the first book in the series. There we get a little bit more about Bran and Maddy, plus readers will become more acquainted with the legend of Santa Cristina to create a fuller reading experience.

DEVIL AND THE DEEP read like a movie. If you're a fan of action comedy films, then I think you will absolutely love Walker's writing style. She combines the high-octane suspense with a heady dose of her trademark humor. The jokes and the non-stop bantering happen throughout the novel and for me, it is both the greatest strength and weakness of the book. The lightheartness of the book is what sets Walker's books apart from others in the genre. But I will also say that it works as a double-edged sword because too much of it can affect the pacing as well. So while I do think it is an essential part to Walker's writing, there were some moments where I think it became too much.

Nevertheless, the entire premise of this series is unlike anything I've encountered in Romantic Suspense and for that reason alone, I think you should give this series a shot. DEVIL AND THE DEEP will certainly have readers panting for more!

SUMMARY

The former SEALs of The Deep Six return in a sizzling series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker.

A COVERT MISSION
Maddy Powers's life revolves around cocktail parties, political fundraisers, and charity events - but she can't forget the daring former SEAL who appropriated her father's yacht a few months ago ... or the scorching kiss they shared before he disappeared into the deep blue sea.

SPARKS A FLAMING DESIRE
Bran Pallidino carries a dark secret behind his lady-killer eyes - one that keeps him from pursuing a serious relationship with Maddy. But when she's taken hostage during a trip to the Dry Tortugas, the men of Deep Six Salvage drop their treasure hunt for a sunken galleon and embark on a dangerous mission to save Maddy.

WITH EARTH-SHATTERING REPERCUSSIONS
As they fight her merciless kidnappers, they discover this isn't a simple hostage situation, but something far more sinister. Passion boils between Bran and Maddy, but what good is putting their hearts on the line if they don't survive the dawn?
