In this historical tale of intrigue and romance we meet Darach Grant, a sexy Highlander who is not afraid to use his fists for the good of his kin. But Darach also has a softer side, the heart of a bard, which he keeps closely guarded. The only person who came close to unlocking his soul was fiery Janet Buchanan from Ravenglade. Having tended his wounds when he had been captured seven months ago, Darach had fallen under the minx's spell, and like most tough heroes, left her behind seemingly without a second glance. But he has never been able to forget the woman with her scathing temper and sharp wit, who made his passion rise like no other.
Malcolm, Darach's cousin, informs Darach that he needs to go to Ravenglade as it is under attack from the Menzie clan. Darach pleads with him to send someone else because he doesn't want to see Janet again, and it is Janet and her people who need rescuing. Malcolm is adamant that it has to be Darach, so Darach heads for Ravenglade, determined to forget about Janet.
Meanwhile Janet and her brother Will, are trying to protect their people and the home that they have come to love, from the vile Roddie Menzie and his ilk. Will attempts to buy them time for the help to arrive, by offering Menzie what he truly desires, Janet as his wife, his possession. Disgusted at the thought, Janet understands that this is just a stalling tactic, and eventually agrees to the plan. When Darach arrives to help, she is truly shocked. Angry that he left, angry that he waltzes back into her life so arrogant, and still so handsome, Janet does what she does best, she lashes out at him. But soon it becomes apparent to both of them that the passion and feelings between them is one of a kind. They are two strong personalities that complement each other, if they could only admit it to each other. As events unfold, will Darach and Janet unite together, or will it be too late?
THE SWEET SURRENDER OF JANET BUCHANAN by Paula Quinn has everything you need for a delightful historical romance - a sinfully handsome hero, a feisty, outspoken heroine, turmoil and outside threats, set amidst the beautiful Isle of Skye. I could not ask for more out of this short tale and it was thoroughly enjoyable.
