Mystery Cozy | Mystery Woman Sleuth

Mallory Marlowe's latest assignment for The Good Life magazine takes her to the Colorado get-away town of Aspen. While checking out all the local spots for her travel article on things to do for the non-skier, she works in a visit with a former high school classmate. Carly Cassidy Berman runs a spa in Aspen that Mallory plans to include in the magazine, but her main claim to fame is a fountain of youth drink aptly named Rejuva-Juice.

Carly greets Mallory like a long-lost friend, something they were not in high school, and brings Mallory into her small circle of people worth knowing on the spa circuit. Mallory gets a lot of information for her article; she has even more to write about when Carly turns up in the spa's mud bath -- dead.

Mallory is determined to discover the identity of the murderer. But the murderer is just as determined to remain anonymous, and is willing to do just about anything to keep the secret, including kill an annoyingly curious travel writer. And if dealing with a murderer isn't enough, Mallory has two handsome men expressing more than a little bit of interest in her! Her romantic life hasn't been this busy since high school!

TOO RICH AND TOO DEAD by Cynthia Baxter serves up an intriguing cast of suspects in the latest Murder Packs a Suitcase mystery. Mallory Marlowe is a likable amateur sleuth, smart and savvy, coping with day-to-day living after the death of her husband and raising two older children while getting back into the working world. The mystery is cleverly plotted and the resolution unpredictable, keeping the reader guessing until the killer pulls a gun on Mallory. The wonderful descriptions and the magazine write-up at the end of the book will leave you ready to pack your bags for Aspen...just be sure to take this book with you!

SUMMARY

Have suitcase, will sleuth...

Mallory Marlowe, travel writer for the Good Life magazine, heads to Colorado to answer the question: Can nonskiers have fun in Aspen? It’s also a chance to visit a now rich and famous high-school classmate, Carly Cassidy Berman. Cheerleader, homecoming queen, and class president, Carly had it all then and still does—a sprawling mountainside home, an adoring husband, and a multimillion-dollar business centered around her super-exclusive Tavaci Springs spa. But not all is what it seems in Carly’s golden life, because within twenty-four hours of Mallory’s arrival, Carly’s corpse turns up in a mud bath.

Against a dazzling backdrop of majestic ski slopes, ritzy boutiques, and slumming celebrities, Mallory suddenly discovers that Aspen’s main attraction is a dazzling array of suspects—one of whom is eager to see this accidental sleuth’s travels come to an end. As Mallory begins to uncover the secrets hidden amid Aspen’s snow, will a desperate killer make this playground for the pampered and privileged Mallory’s final destination?

Includes Mallory’s article for the Good Life, with tips and reviews of real Aspen attractions!
