Romance Contemporary

They had never stopped loving each other.

Six years had passed since Christine walked out on Joe. Six years of wondering why they had been lucky in so many things, but not the one thing that really mattered.

But now there she was, back in the big bed they had once shared, the rambling old house that was going to be their forever home, the place where they would raise their children and spoil their grandkids, dreaming about the ex-husband who still claimed her heart. The dream was so real, she could almost feel the heat of his body against her skin, hear his voice.

“It’s been a long time, Christie.”

She wasn’t dreaming after all. The man she loved, the man she had married and lost, was sitting on the edge of the bed they’d shared, looking at her as if he knew all of her secrets. She grabbed for the sheet and yanked it up to her chin.

“Don’t worry,” he said. “You’re not naked.”

“How would you know?” she demanded, although it was hard to sound indignant from a prone position.

The grin he gave her was pure Joe. “How else?” he shot back. “I peeked.”
