Single mother Autumn Cole makes the decision to return to her small hometown in Washington after loosing her job gives her a strong basic need to return to her roots. Autumn is determined to start over regardless of the fact that her father is known as the town drunk, she has overcome worse. Autumn's first line of business is to get her 12-year-old son, Elliott, situated in his new school which she completely understands will be difficult for him. Elliott is used to electronics and fashion but now he is in a foreign location where jeans and the simple life are normal. Autumn, never in a million years thinks that on Elliott's first day of school will bring her past smashing into the now. Her sons teacher, Henry Tobler, is the one Autumn let get away or the one she ran away from but he is here in the flesh, in her hometown once again setting her world on full tilt.
