Re: The Red Pony (7:45pm June 7, 2009):

Hmmm . . . I'm having a hard time remembering what was required reading since I was always an avid reader and was always reading something. I recall having to read The Witch of Blackbird Pond in, I believe, 6th grade. 1984 is another one I know I read but couldn't tell you a lot about it today. Oh, and Shakespeare - we had to read Julius Caesar and Romeo and Juliet. I enjoyed those plays so much I went on to take a mini-course on Shakespeare in my Junior year at high school.
My daughter was in Honors English this past year and one of the books she was required to read was The Kite Runner. She said it was very good and wanted me to read it but I couldn't get past the 1st chapter.

Re: The Madness Of Lord Ian Mackenzie (7:52pm April 29, 2009):

Oh, a few years ago I read a book that had a deaf hero. Unfortunately I can't recall the title at the moment. But the character was written as so self-confident and self-assured you couldn't help but love him.
