Taylor Travini knows there's something wrong with her twin
brother, Terry. Both are world travelers, but Terry always
checks in when he's on the road. Only this time, he seems
to have disappeared. Taylor heads for Chile to find him and
make sure he's okay. What she finds scares her, because the
hotel manager where Terry stayed claims he was never there.
As she leaves the hotel, a car almost hits her, killing
instead the doorman who'd been close by. A policeman
appears and finds drugs when looking through her backpack.
Taylor escapes the police at the airport, where they're
trying to put her on an airplane home, convinced more than
ever that her brother stumbled into some kind of trouble.
On a quest now, Taylor heads toward a bar to show Terry's
picture and see if anyone has seen him. Of course, she's
just asking for trouble and it finds her -- but she's
rescued by Rafe Maguire, an American who's working in Chile
as a mercenary. Taylor finds herself teamed with Rafe,
whose ingrained chivalry (a Southern gentleman to the core)
forces him to help her even though he's trying to avoid
ties.
As the two travel Terry's path through Chile, evading many
bad guys along the way, their chemistry grows and their
independent spirits start to understand what could happen
when they have someone to lean on. As disturbing clues come
together, Rafe and Taylor realize this is about much more
than one man -- they must work to stop an international
crisis.
I'm a total sucker for adventure romances and this was a
great one! The Chilean culture and challenges it presented
added to the drama, although our hero and heroine were both
up to the task. A good read for some light-hearted, action-
packed drama.
Used to roughing it, Taylor Travini had no desire for
protection and no fear of being alone in a foreign country.
She and her twin brother were experienced travelers. But
now Terry had vanished in Chile, and in searching for him
Taylor found a world of trouble. Offering to help was a
gray-eyed stranger in a grungy Santiago bar.
Rafe Maguire had seen too much. His years with the Army
Rangers had hardened him, along with the deaths of his wife
and child. He'd turned mercenary, training soldiers of
whomever would pay. But though his hands were lethal
weapons, they could never kill his past - just as Rafe
could never snuff his instinct to protect. And this tall
blonde needed more than just a strong arm.
An independent beauty and a war-weary veteran, both Taylor
and Rafe had a lot to learn. And with a kiss as incendiary
as the plot in which they found themselves embroiled, the
pair would start by discovering life isn't worth living
when you can MAKE NO PROMISES.
