For Lord Aidan Duhearst, honor and loyalty to his country
rank highest. Just as his father, who died in battle
protecting his men during war, Aidan should have died along
with his men in battle against the French. Yet, Aidan finds
himself a prisoner of the French. When he awakes, he sees
an angel, a beautiful woman standing over him angry for the
rough treatment the French have inflicted on him. She awes
him. Her gentle touch as she wipes blood from his face
burns his senses, his heart races and it leaves him
confused of his own feelings, for she is the enemy --
Napoleon's mistress.
Lady Celeste Rivenhall knows Aidan is the Earl of Wessex,
and she finds a way to save his life and to see him safely
home. Celeste is a spy, bringing valuable information of
Napoleon's moves back to England in the hope of saving the
lives of men who go to battle. Her very survival requires
that Aidan never discover her secret. He must forever see
her as the enemy as she returns to London in search of a
real traitor.
Even though the sight of Celeste enflames Aidan's desires,
the thought of her being a traitor brings his loyalties to
the front and he vows to see her hanged. Temptations run
rampant between the two while Celeste gives him tit-for-tat
until the end. And Aidan is unable to decide until the very
end if Celeste is a spy or not.
I truly enjoyed this debut novel by Ms. Saxon. Celeste and
Aidan's amusing dialogue considering their mutual sexual
frustration built two-fold with each conversation and each
act. The story pulled me into the intrigue of spies and war
and rewarded me with Aidan's final acceptance and love for
his woman. This is the first book in a series of lady spy
novels by Ms. Saxon, with the second novel, THE LADY
KILLER, coming in January 2006.
Lady Celeste Rivenhall lives a double life, a British agent
posing as a French spy. Then Lord Aiden Duhearst is
delivered into her hands as a prisoner of war--and she will
risk anything to save him. Anything but the truth.
