Taxidermy collector Garth Carson has just made a purchase
for his girlfriend's birthday -- a white crow mounted in a
bell jar. While placing it in his car, he's accosted by
Fletcher, who is angrily screaming that the bird is his.
Being the dealer that he is, Garth offers to sell it for an
enormous amount. Needless to say, he drives away from the
angry guy with the bird safely in his car. Well, this is
just the beginning of the adventures of Garth Carson, his
girlfriend, Angie, and the famous white crow. What's so
surprising is that every time he turns around, someone
wants that white crow.
After returning home from Angie's birthday dinner, Garth
and Angie are attacked and robbed. Many of his valuable
skins and mounts are taken, along with the crow. A few days
later, he receives a call from the Massachusetts State
Police that his taxidermy was found in a safety net over
the Connecticut River. So Garth and Angie set off on a road
trip to retrieve his merchandise. All of it's recovered,
except for (you guessed it) the white crow. Okay, why would
the thieves leave the valuables behind? Or did the crow
miss the net and plunge to the water below? The answers to
these questions can only be found if they continue on their
road trip to where the trouble began, Bermuda, Vermont.
While in Bermuda, Garth and Angie are met with much trouble
from Fletcher and his friends. Garth's confrontation with
Fletcher sends Fletcher fleeing into the front of a truck.
And the only description Garth can relate to the police
about the accident and Fletcher's death is that he saw a
fin. Now Garth is immersed in a world of dead gorillas,
gaffs, freak sideshows, pygmies shooting poison arrows and
someone with a fin. Believe it or not, all of the law
enforcement agencies brought in to work this case have a
hard time believing his story. Now it's time for Angie to
come to his rescue.
Following up on yet another lead concerning a missing white
crow, Angie goes to Mallard Island, Maine. The issue is not
just getting the bird back (her birthday present), but why
people are willing to kill for it. What they discover in
Maine will answer that question along with many others.
STUFFED is an incredibly funny and adventurous story that
pits the ordinary against the bizarre. Wiprud has created
such an array of quirky characters that they give the word
bizarre a brand new meaning. This book is hard to put down
until you know why everyone's feathers are so ruffled by
the white crow in the bell jar. A great read!

When the crow is stolen, along with $50,000 worth of
