Romance Suspense

With an ex-husband in trouble with loan sharks, an ex- boyfriend just released from prison and a wheelchair-bound ex-cop living next door, Liz Clark's life is far from settled. And it's about to get much more complicated.

There are a lot of unexplained incidents happening in Dover, Delaware, the small New England town where Liz grew up. She's now a professor at Sommerville College and one of her students has been found brutally murdered -- in her office. There's someone stalking her and, even though Liz is terrified, she must get a grip, toughen up and find out who the stalker is so her life can become bearable again. But who can Liz trust? Who is pursuing her? While she dreams of sultry nights with her ex-boyfriend, very different plans are being made. Liz is in danger and her life, as she knows it, is about to change.

He's the Game Master. He keeps a small memento from each one of his victims. What better way to remember the screams of terror, the flesh, the blood. The "professor" will be the best of all. Patience is making his appetite keener and his ultimate prize greater. The Game Master will feast on her flesh and deny himself nothing.

AT RISK is a dazzler. It will make your palms sweat, your heart race and will excite lovers of suspense, as well as those who enjoy a good romance. Ms. French delivers a thriller and the tension is kept at fever pitch from beginning to end. This is a novel that will long be remembered by everyone who reads it. It's one of the best. Don't miss it.

SUMMARY

At seventeen, Liz Clarke fled a broken romance, a terrible family secret, and a hard-scrabble life as the daughter of a drunken commercial fisherman on the Delaware Bay. Ambition and determination turn her from a frightened girl to an educated and worldly college professor.

But when Liz returns home years later to a new teaching position and an isolated three-hundred-year old farmhouse, she doesn't expect to find one of her students brutally murdered in her office or to hear from her old flame, the county's bad boy Jack Rafferty, the same night.

And she doesn't realize that she's at risk from the sadistic Game Master, a serial killer who tortures and murders women before disposing of their mutilated bodies in crab traps. Stalked and terrorized, Liz has two choices—run or stay and fight for her life and the future she's struggled so hard to achieve.
