WE MET IN DECEMBER is a delicious delight about second chances set in the lovely locale that is London. I enjoyed Jess and Alex's story and I am no stranger to the magic that is brought by author Rosie Curtis.

At 29, Jess has had it living in her small hometown. She has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend and it is time to move on and catch a few of her dreams. Jess has always dreamed of working in and living in London. Through Becky, her friend, who just inherited a large, posh centrally located home in Notting Hill, Jess is able to afford the very cheap rent and try her wings. The tumbled down-home needs fixing but the location is perfect and she found t a job in a publishing company. Alex and Alice just broke up. His father died recently from Cancer and Alex was so impressed by the care and special caring given to his dad by his nurses. Bored and unfulfilled by his life as a lawyer, he wants to train to become a nurse. He wants to do something with his life that matters. He quit his job and begins to study to become a nurse. This does not appeal to Alice especially because of the financial differences in his new choice for future employment. Why doesn't he become a doctor? A serious argument erupts, and when he refuses to give up his plans, Alice calls it quits, Now single, he is determined to begin his new adventure beginning with his move to a rambling home at a distinctive address at Notting Hill.

Becky planned a festive get-acquainted party for her new tenants. Attending is Alex, handsome, a charming chap, pretty and stylish Emma and Jenn, her friend from Uni. The fourth housemate is Rob, unable to attend as he is a chef and works endless hours. It is a fun time. Lots of drinks, a few games, but Becky stresses the most important rule of the house: there can be no relationships in this house. Becky put it simply but firmly no sneaking around in each others bedrooms. Jess was unable to take her eyes from Alex. He was gorgeous, built, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

However, when Jess returns from her trip, Emma and Alex have a " friends with benefits arrangement" going strong as she can hear through her wall. She also sees Emma come out of Alex's room in her dressing gown and return upstairs to her own bedroom. She decides to pretend she knows nothing of their trysts. Jess and Alex spend all their free time walking around London together. they talk about their hopes and dreams for the future. They fall in love with each other but refuse to talk about it to each other.

A year passes with chapters told first by Jess, then Alex. A story filled with sub-plots about Nanna Beth, Jess's adorable grandmother, as well as her melodramatic, selfish mother, who I found easy to dislike. The date Jess has from Tinder is a disaster and hilarious. This friends-to-lovers theme builds slowly and it is sweet and I loved it, especially Alex. Looking for a feel-good, fun, festive read, try, WE MET IN DECEMBER. You are wonderful Rosie Curtis. I am a big fan!

SUMMARY

Two people. One house. A year that changes everything.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jess is following her dream and moving to London. It’s December, and she’s taking a room in a crumbling, but grand, Notting Hill house-share with four virtual strangers. On her first night, Jess meets Alex, the guy sharing her floor, at a Christmas dinner hosted by her landlord. They don’t kiss, but as far as Jess is concerned the connection is clear. She starts planning how they will knock down the wall between them to spend more time together.

But when Jess returns from a two-week Christmas holiday, she finds Alex has started dating someone else—beautiful Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into (hell, sharing a bathroom with) the man of her dreams…and the woman of his.
