Ulric thought he was the last survivor of his pack, but out of nowhere, he spots his cousin Brigette, who runs from him. Tells him to forget he ever saw her and she runs again and he loses her, but he is more determined than ever to CONQUER THE DARKNESS and find family. He has had survivor's guilt for hundreds of years and isn't going to let his cousin go without an explanation.
Rainn, a zephyr sprite, who works in the same casino as Ulric for the vampire Tarak, doesn't have the same warm feelings toward the lost cousin that Ulric is determined to find. She watched her on security screens, and something about the set up screamed just that -- set up. If he won't listen, then the only thing that Rainn can do is follow him and protect him in any way she can. Little does she know that this is the situation that she has been prophesied to fix. Rainn has a few secrets of her own, and one is that she is also Ulric's mate. But, until she is sure she will survive her ordeal, there is no way she can be any more than a bodyguard to the irritating wolfman.
CONQUER THE DARKNESS is a Guardians of Eternity that I have long been waiting for. Ulric's past is heartbreaking, but Rainn hasn't had it much better. He lost his whole pack, and she had been born with the oracles mark that meant sometime, somewhere, she had to do something big. And yes, that is just about the same information she received from those all seeing beings. Not a lot to go on at all. She is, however, the voice of reason, as she tries to convince Ulric to be careful of what he wants because Brigette just might not be what he hopes she is. They make a great pair though Rainn is very reluctant to get deeper involved with him because she fears whatever she had to do just might get her killed.
CONQUER THE DARKNESS is not all gloom and doom as it were, because everyone's favorite (minus most of the guys in the series) gargoyle Levet joins the couple as back up. He even has some time with his Inga (You will really have to read Beware the Darkness to get that full story), but as a hero, little Levet is hilarious and yet really at times the voice of wisdom.
If you love a paranormal with shifters, vampires, mystery, danger, intrigue, a steamy romance, wit, snark, wisdom, and an evil to destroy, then you must read CONQUER THE DARKNESS.
