Ronnie (Veronica) Ashford had her life pulled out from under
her as a teen and learned to depend on no one but herself.
The last thing she wants is a partner. She will offer Jack
Crews the job and a better reason for him not to take it.
Little does she know that she and Jack are about to go on an
amazing SLOW RIDE whether she likes it or not. When one of
the odd artifacts her employers have her collecting puts her
in the sights of a serial killer, she will need Jack more
than she ever needed anyone.
Jack meets an awesome woman and thinks his evening is going
to be great until she hears his name and suddenly he's only
getting a very cold shoulder. He's determined to take the
job as her driver and hopes a few hours in a car will be a
good way to get back the warmth that had almost burned him
that evening.
SLOW RIDE is a mixture of sad, hilarious, sweet, steamy,
thought-provoking and fun. In other words author Lori Foster
at her best. Both Jack and Ronnie come from families that
are certainly not the "Cleavers," actually not even the
Bundys from "Married with Children." Her family is just
rotten who in their rejection had made her feel as if she
was unlovable. Jack has to work overtime to make her believe
his feelings are real. His family consists of a brother, an
awesome mother and a wandering father who doesn\'t realize
what a good thing he had. A bit more normal but he still
wonders what could have been.
It was interesting to watch the battle of wills between Jack
and Ronnie and see who would break down and give in first.
Sorry, you will have to read SLOW RIDE to find out how the
HEA comes about. The situations they find themselves in as
they travel to pick up the various items purchased by her
very eccentric bosses are at times hilarious and other times
dangerous. The secondary and supporting characters are
crazy—some in a good, eccentric way and others just crazy. I
enjoy getting to see the Crews family again, and watch as
Ronnie starts to understand that sometimes family really
just means people who love you.
The only drawback I found with SLOW RIDE was that it follows
really close to the plot of DRIVEN TO
DISTRACTION the first book of the Road to
Love series. In that book, Brodie Crews drove Mary
Daniel to pick up artifacts her boss had bought. SLOW RIDE
itself is different enough that you will soon be caught up
in the danger and drama they face. And, of course, one
should not forget the way Ms. Foster makes her readers melt
as the romance builds, so SLOW RIDE is a fantastic read.
You can’t put the brakes on love… Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesn’t need anyone’s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the bar—and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: “I’m Jack Crews.” Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnie—in bed and out of it—but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman who’s never felt like she belonged that she’s found her place—with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, it’s going to be one unforgettable trip…
