On their way home after the Civil War ends, Joe Dancing Cloud, his
friend Boyd, and the group they are traveling with are attacked by a
rogue band of Yankee soldiers. Boyd steps in front of Dancing Cloud,
saving his life, and Dancing Cloud vows to help Boyd any way he can
for the rest of his life. The leader of these villainous soldiers gets away,
but is shot in the leg while fleeing.
After patching up the wounded and taking care of the dead, Dancing
Cloud and Boyd go their separate ways to find their homes devastated
by the war. Boyd has lost everything including his wife, but knows his
daughter, Lauralee is still alive. He spends the next ten years looking
for, only to find her working in the veteran's hospital where he has
come to live out the rest of his days. Lauralee has been living in the
orphanage connected to the hospital since she was five, and still
suffers from the attack and death of her mother. As Boyd lays dying, he
sends for his friend Joe Dancing Cloud, the only man he trusts to take
Lauralee to their relatives in Illinois. As soon as Dancing Cloud and
Lauralee meet they're attracted to each other, but Lauralee has always
been wary of men after her mother's attack. Dancing Cloud leaves her
in Illinois, and heads to his home in North Carolina.
Joe's return trip doesn't go as planned when his enemy from ten years
ago reappears out of no where, trying to kill him after all these years.
Taken in by a kind farmer, the nearest doctor is also treating Lauralee's
aunt, who suffered a heart attack. Lauralee's feelings for Joe resurface
as soon as she sees him suffering from the gunshot, even though she's
been talking to the son of the farmer who has taken them all in.
But danger is never far from Joe Dancing Cloud, and when his enemy
threatens Lauralee and her family, he knows he has to protect the
woman he loves. Will they survive, uncertain of where their enemies are
hiding out? And will they both be able to admit their true feelings, even
with their differences, and love with Wild Abandon?
Cassie Edwards is one of the leading writers of historical Native
American romance, and WILD
ABANDON is a wonderful escape. She writes about different tribes
and shows the prejudice against them and their way of life like you are
there. Edwards catches the feeling of prejudices in post-Civil War
America in this story of love between Joe Dancing Cloud and Lauralee.
Edwards brings you into the world of these two characters and how
they love each other through all the trials and joys of a life well lived.
They learn they can overcome their problems with love and trust in
each other no matter what, with Wild Abandon.
The tragedy of the Civil War had forced Lauralee Johnston
into an orphanage, and years passed before she was finally
reunited with her beloved father and heard his dying wish.
But for sheltered Lauralee, placing her trust in a
Cherokee brave was almost too much to ask. Unfamiliar with
Cherokee customs and especially Joe Dancing Cloud’s
powerful, exotic presence, she gradually learned to trust
in his gentle strength, especially when it came to
exploring the passion they shared. But once they claimed
each other’s hearts, the world around them denounced their
love. Against fear and prejudice, the two lovers will have
to fight for their destiny…
