Cass Connor always thought that she had a perfect life. She is a wife,
mother of three and has a great job. She has two children from her first
marriage, but her husband sadly passed away. When she meets Ryan,
she isn't looking to get married, but soon after they meet they know
they want to get married and spend their lives together as a family.
They have a third child together. Cass and Ryan have bought an old
house and are in the process of fixing it up.
They have a great marriage until little things start to change. Ryan
spends more and more time at work, and he always has a lame excuse
as to why he is late. Cass suspects Ryan of having an affair, but he
denies it. Then suddenly, Cass starts getting sick. Her doctors can't
figure out what is causing this illness, but Cass suspects that Ryan is
poisoning her. Cass wants bloodworm done to see what is in her
system, but she keeps getting the run around from the doctors, who do
not believe that her husband is doing something so sinister. Ryan then
starts telling people that she is going insane. They separate, and Ryan
wants full custody of the child they share.
Meanwhile, Cass also becomes friendly with her neighbor, Nora. At
first, she is a little afraid of this neighbor and why is she asking so
many different questions. Just as Cass starts to trust him a little, there
is a change of events. What are the connections between the neighbor
and her husband? Cass will do whatever she has to find out what is
really going on...
POISON by Galt Niederhoffer is a
great mystery thriller. The way that Niederhoffer made Cass feel like
she was going insane is fantastic. I almost started to believe that she
was losing her mind. Niederhoffer also showed what a great friendship
that Cass had developed with Nora, the only person who believes her.
Who would think a husband would go that far; just to get rid of his
wife? Niederhoffer also showed how Ryan could convince anyone that
Cass was insane and he was only trying to protect their family. At first,
this book was a little slow, but after several pages, I couldn't put it
down. This book will keep you guessing: is Cass insane, or is Ryan
really trying to kill her?
Cass and Ryan Connor have achieved family nirvana. With three kids between them, a cat and a yard, a home they built and feathered, they seem to have the Modern Family dream. Their family, including Cass' two children from previous relationships, has recently moved to Portland —a new start for their new lives. Cass and Ryan have stable, successful careers, and they are happy. But trouble begins almost imperceptibly. First with small omissions and white lies that happen daily in any marital bedroom. They seem insignificant, but they are quickly followed by a series of denials and feints that mushroom and then cyclone in menace. With life-or-death stakes and irreversible consequences, Poison is a chilling and irresistible reminder that the closest bond designed to protect and provide for each other and for children can change in a minute.
