Women's Fiction

THE UPSIDE OF FALLING DOWN by Rebekah Crane is a contemporary young adult novel that is about a girl who is the lone survivor of a plane crash. This fast-paced suspenseful read will keep you up all night as you read one fascinating page after another. I could not put this book down once I started reading. After a plane crash in Ireland leaves Clementine the sole survivor, she wakes up in a hospital only to learn that she has amnesia. Everyone tells her how lucky she is but she cannot remember why she is even in the hospital and not remembering anything about the plane crash or her name. She takes on a new identity by the name of Jane and flees the hospital.

THE UPSIDE OF FALLING DOWN will take you on a journey with Jane as she rediscovers who she really is and what really happened that day. It's a book that is full of hope, rediscovery, friendship, love, and fresh starts. The element of amnesia helps to add a mystery or suspense to the story making us discover Jane's story at the same time she is figuring out who she is. Crane really writes a heartfelt but suspenseful read with many unknowns and fears as the characters work their way through the plot to discover things that might not be want they thought. The setting is lovely and well written with detailed descriptions that makes it easy to picture what the characters are seeing. All the characters are well written and developed with interesting pasts. THE UPSIDE OF FALLING DOWN is a book that is perfect for anyone who loves a good mystery romance with a hint of Irish countryside. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this romance novel and found the plot to be intriguingly different.

SUMMARY

For Clementine Haas, finding herself is more than a nice idea. Ever since she woke up in an Irish hospital with complete amnesia, self-discovery has become her mission. They tell her she’s the lone survivor of a plane crash. They tell her she’s lucky to be alive. But she doesn’t feel lucky. She feels…lost. With the relentless Irish press bearing down on her, and a father she may not even recognize on his way from America to take her home, Clementine assumes a new identity and enlists a blue-eyed Irish stranger, Kieran O’Connell, to help her escape her forgotten life…and start a new one. Hiding out in the sleepy town of Waterville, Ireland, Clementine discovers there’s an upside to a life that’s fallen apart. But as her lies grow, so does her affection for Kieran, and the truth about her identity becomes harder and harder to reveal, forcing Clementine to decide: Can she leave her past behind for a new love she’ll never forget?
