THE WEDDING DATE by Jasmine Guillory is an entertaining,
lively, and romantic read! I enjoyed reading every page of this
adorable love story between Alexa and Drew. Can a "fake" date
to a wedding turn into something more? The front cover does not
do this book justice and you will find it hard to believe that
this is Guillory's debut novel. When a wedding invitation arrives, most people are excited, but
not for someone who does not have a date. THE WEDDING DATE
introduces us to Alexa and Drew. These two successful young
professionals have put their careers first and their love lives
on the back burner. Alexa and Drew have everything they could
possibly want, except love. Alexa is smart, loyal, and goal oriented with everything from
her career, her friends, and especially her family. However,
with all this loyalty she sometimes jumps to conclusions
causing her to feel insecure. This insecurity makes her
hesitant to step outside the box and take a chance. Throughout
THE WEDDING DATE you will see her grow and become more daring.
She even goes on a "fake" date, starts a long-distance
relationship, and takes on a massively challenging project at
work. You will love seeing her adventurous side come to life! Drew is the complete opposite of Alexa. He is a dedicated
and hard
worker, but loves to play even harder. He avoids
relationships at like the plague because commitment
downright scares
him. This is why he is known as the heartbreaker. When he meets
Alexa for the first time something changes. He seems to become
softer and his heart seems to melt a little. I had a love, hate
feel for Drew at the beginning of this novel but after a few
chapters you see a different side of Drew that made me change
my opinion of him. THE WEDDING DATE seems to mainly revolve around the amazingly
steamy romance between Alexa and Drew making this the perfect
read for a cold winters night snuggled in a blanket with a cup
of hot tea. The romance is sure to warm your heart and the
drama between these two will make you laugh out loud.
Guillory's writing is descriptive and really establishes the
connection between the two. Showing lots of emotions as they
struggle to find balance with communication issues of a long-
distance relationship, managing their careers, friendships,
romance, and not really knowing where their relationship
stands. The characters are well developed with intriguing
backstories that help to explain the reasons for the way some
of the characters act/respond a certain way. Overall, an enjoyable read that is a perfect addition to your
romance collection.
SUMMARY
A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to
discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and
flirty debut novel. Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck
with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't
normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols
that's too hard to resist. On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus
a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the
perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend... After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought
possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job
as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley,
where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they
can't stop thinking about the other... They're just two high-powered professionals on a
collision course toward the long distance dating disaster
of the century--or closing the gap between what they
think they need and what they truly want...
