Blame it on the shoes. When label-obsessed fashion reporter
Alex Simons can't find her favorite black Manolo Blahniks
that perfectly complement her Tuesday outfit, she's just
beside herself! Fashion Week in Paris can't go on if she
doesn't have the perfect accessories to get her in the
frame of mind to sit through show after show. Luckily for
her, Paris is teeming with shoe boutiques, all easily
within walking distance. While espying a pair of black
Louboutins at Bon Marché, Alex randomly runs into her
former French teacher from her high school back in Texas.
Little does she know, this chance encounter is about to
send her whole world spinning...
Late to the Chanel show, Alex hastily tries to take her
seat before the models make it down the runway. Thinking
that a shortcut across the catwalk should do the trick,
Alex trips on her new heels and lands face first into
supermodel Katyarina's cleavage. Humiliated and horrified,
Alex scurries back to her hotel as fast as her stilettos
will carry her.
Fortunately, Alex doesn't have to wait long before the
fashion world's attention is diverted to the next
scandalous story. Handsome young Nick Snow happens to start
his own domino effect at a Givenchy show, knocking the wind
out of and the wig off of famous fashionista Arianna
Sidebottom. Alex is back in business!
Over the next few days, these star-crossed lovers will get
thrown together repeatedly as an up-and-coming designer has
the most fabulous opening show in the history of fashion,
ends up missing the next night and Alex somehow ends up
promising to find him. Mix in some secret passwords,
American reality television and a blindfold or two, and
you've got yourself one heck of a scoop!
While Julie K. L. Dam has all the elements for a
really exciting story (Mystery! Suspense! Romance!
Fashion!), the transition from scene to scene doesn't flow
smoothly. Regardless, fans of such titles as THE DEVIL
WEARS PRADA and FASHIONISTAS will enjoy this similar
venture into the world of fashion.
Meet Alexandra, a small-town Texas girl turned fashion
correspondent for the respected British Weekly. She wears
all the right designers and knows all the right people, but
can her reputation survive a collision with a six-foot-plus
model at the Chanel Show? The fall has been splashed across
every newspaper and television set in the world, it seems,
and Alex has sworn to adopt status incognito. But there’s
one small problem. How do you get the scoop when you’re
hidden under the covers in your hotel room?
