Wylie has lived on Mammoth Lake all of his life and now he
has returned home after serving in Afghanistan. Wylie had a
rough upbringing as the illegitimate grandson of Adam, the
patriarch of Mammoth Lake but Adam never treated Wylie any
different than his other grandchildren.
Wylie's mother Kathleen had an affair with Richard who was
married to Cynthia who caught them and killed Richard. Wylie
has two half-brothers, Sky and Robert. All three of them
are great skiers. While Robert and Wylie get along great,
Wylie and Sky have always had a rocky road. Sky has always
been jealous of Wylie and will stop at nothing to bully him.
All three are going to try and win the biggest ski
championship in Mammoth Lake. Wylie wants to win this so
that he can help his mother out. During one of the test
runs, Robert takes a bad jump and is critically injured.
Sky now feels that he will do whatever it takes to beat
Wylie and starts with all kinds of threats. Adam is not
happy with his grandsons. Adam makes them promise that they
will work out their problems and get along but Sky has no
intentions of doing this.
April is a world champion snowboarder. Wylie and April find
that they both have a lot in common and the sparks are
flying. Sky on the other hand has a lot of demons. He has
never forgiven Wylie and his mother from taking his father
away from him. After all, if it wasn't for Kathleen
sleeping with his father, he would still have him.
T. Jefferson Parker writes a great story line about a family
in dire straits. CRAZY BLOOD shows how there could be Crazy
Blood in all families. It also shows how the apple doesn't
fall from the tree. You will have to read this book to know
what I am talking about. T. Jefferson also shows how karma
does come around.
CRAZY BLOOD has a lot of everything, mystery, family values
and some romance. I would really like to see a sequel on
this book. How did Wylie get along after all the tragedy in
his life? Did Robert ever recover, and how did the rest of
the family handle more tragedy. CRAZY BLOOD is the first
book that I have ever read by T. Jefferson Parker, but it
wouldn't be the last.
The Carson dynasty rules the ski resort town of Mammoth
Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Founded
by patriarch Adam, the town is the site of the Mammoth Cup
ski race-a qualifier for the Olympics. But when Wylie
Welborn, Adam's illegitimate grandson, returns after a stint
in Afghanistan, it reopens a dark moment in Carson family
history: the murder of Wylie's father by his jealous and
very pregnant wife, Cynthia. Her son Sky, born while his
mother was in prison, and Wylie are half-brothers. They
inherit not only superb athletic skills but an enmity that
threatens to play out in a lethal drama on one of the
fastest and most perilous ski slopes in the world.
Three powerful and unusual women have central roles in this
volatile family feud: Cynthia, bent on destroying Wylie; his
mother Kathleen, determined to protect him; and April Holly,
a beautiful celebrity snowboarder, on track to win Olympic
Gold. But, as Wylie falls in love with April and they begin
to imagine a life away from the violence that has shattered
his family, history threatens to repeat itself and destroy
them both.
Combining exquisite writing with breathtaking scenes of high
stakes skiing, CRAZY BLOOD is an unforgettable story of two
brothers on a ruthless quest for supremacy.
