Romance Suspense | Suspense

Bobbie Gentry is working hard to get her life back together after the trauma of losing her husband, child, partner and being captured and tormented by a serial killer. But now there seems to be a copycat who wants to put Bobbie in A DEEPER GRAVE. This police detective will not go down without a fight for herself and for the man who helped save her before, Nick Slade, and is in danger himself now. Nick is a serial killer hunter, the son of an infamous killer, who is desperate not to follow in his father's footsteps. He comes back to reunite with Bobbie to try and stop the killer who is copying some of those he had put away. Is Bobbie the target or is Nick being led to become like his father?

A DEEPER GRAVE is a dark, gritty, edge-of-your-seat read, that is absolutely not for the faint of heart. Author Debra Webb is an awesome writer that will put you right there in the action, feeling the fear, anger and, yes, even the angst that comes with this partnership.

In this offering, we get more into Nick's life with his father and see more of his father as he warns Bobbie that she has become his son's weakness. Which he is sure will lead Nick down the path that he always wanted the boy to go ... following in his killer footsteps. You wonder if Bobbie can keep that from happening or is the psychological damage that has been done making it a foregone conclusion that Nick will end up like his father. Readers of Ms. Webb's Shades of Death series can only read along, worry and wonder as we follow this couple through these horrific venues.

The "bad" guy was a complete surprise to me as the truth seem to come out of nowhere. I am usually fairly good at getting at least a hint, though I often ignore it if it means it's someone I don't want to be the evil one, but this one I got nothing. A very nice twist but it does leave you wondering who can you really trust.

If you are looking for a woman whose strength is amazing, a good fight against evil, believing in the good of another person, and a determination not to lose then A DEEPER GRAVE is what you need.

SUMMARY

When the hunter becomes the hunted…

Serial-killer hunter Nick Shade built his legendary career chasing monsters—sadistic criminals with a gruesome thirst for death. When he rescued Montgomery detective Bobbie Gentry from horrific captivity and helped her reclaim her life, he didn't intend to be a hero. Or a target. But now a copycat murderer haunts him, and reuniting with Bobbie is his best chance at neutralizing the threat.

Bobbie can't forget the nightmares of her trauma—or the man who saved her. Working with Nick to outmaneuver the person behind a deadly vendetta feeds her hope that there's more to her world than ghosts and destruction. Maybe joining Nick's search for a killer is about gratitude. Maybe it's nothing more than cold revenge. But the only way they can protect themselves is to trust each other.
