After answering an ad in Variety, Jaine Austen is
hired as a writer on a reality TV show, "Some Day My Prince
Will Come." Jaine, who's a small-time copywriter of ads and
brochures for small businesses, can't believe her luck.
This could be her big chance at advancing her writing
career. Not only is she jetting off to the tropical island
of Paratito, near Tahiti, but they are letting her bring P
Prozac, her persnickety feline companion. Oh yes, this o
outing should be loads of fun.
Paradise quickly turns to Hell after Jaine's arrival. The
beautiful island mansion boasts air-conditioning on two
floors, however Jaine and her cat are relegated to the
third floor -- an unfinished nightmare. With all the
bickering and back-biting among everyone involved in the
production, something unpleasant is bound to happen. When
one of the finalists is killed, everyone is forced to stay
on Paratito until the murder is solved.
Not having much faith in the competency of the local PD and
wanting to leave the bug-infested hellhole as soon as
possible, Jaine decides she'll have to do her own
murder-solving investigation. After all, she does have a lot
of experience being an amateur PI. Even though the prime
suspect is the rival bachelorette, and she's being held in
the island's jail, Jaine is convinced the babe is being
framed. Adding another layer of stress for Jaine is the
island king, who has plans to make her his wife #12. Let's
hope Jaine survives long enough to escape his clutches and
then catch the real killer.
It's always a joy for me to open up a new Jaine Austen
mystery by Laura Levine and DEATH OF A BACHELORETTE
delivers plenty of snickers and belly laughs. Jaine's
antics dealing with a love-struck island king, who wants to
make her his wife, kept me in stitches. And Prozac is in
rare form again making Jaine's life even more chaotic and
lively. Interspersing hilarious e-mails from her parents
and neighbor Lance keeps the frivolity rolling along -- and
Jaine
Jaine's anxiety level high. With her signature elastic-waist
pants and funky tee shirts, Jaine is willing to jump right
into the fray to bring a murderer to justice. You
waist pants and funky tee shirts, Jaine is willing to jump
right into the fray to bring a murderer to justice. You'll
never find a more unlikely PI, but Jaine always comes out a
winner, even if the path to get there is full of detours,
potholes and personal death threats. I've loved Jaine
Austen and her cat Prozac, as well as her dysfunctional
family and friends, from the first book in this
entertaining series. That means I'm always looking forward
to the next exhilarating installment.
Freelance writer Jaine Austen thought working for a
knock-off reality show in the tropics would be paradise. But
when she and her kitty Prozac find themselves trapped
between a dimwitted leading man, catty contestants, and a
cold-blooded murderer, the splashy gig becomes one deadly
nightmare...
Jaine’s life has been a royal pain since she started penning
dialogue for Some Day My Prince Will Come—a cheesy
dating show that features bachelorettes competing for the
heart of Spencer Dalworth VII, a very distant heir to
the British throne. As if fending off golf ball-sized bugs
on a sweltering island wasn’t tough enough, Jaine must test
her patience against an irritable production crew and fierce
contestants who will do anything to get their prince...
But Jaine never expected murder to enter the script. When
one of the finalists dies in a freak accident, it’s clear
someone wanted the woman out of the race for good—and the
police won’t allow a soul off the island until they seize
the culprit. Terrified of existing another day without air
conditioning and eager to return home, Jaine is throwing
herself into the investigation. And she better pounce on
clues quickly—or there won’t be any survivors left...
