"Romance and magic collide in this compelling paranormal world"

Fresh Fiction Review

White Hot

Romance Paranormal | Fantasy

WHITE HOT is the apropos title of book 2 in the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. This writing duo consists of spouses Ilona and Gordon Andrews, and they can do no authorial wrong in my eyes. I adore everything they have published, and somehow, each book continues to be even better than the one before. You'd think that eventually everyone has to top out somewhere, but Ilona and Gordon show no evidence of that. I got my hands on an Advance Reader Copy of White Hot at Romantic Times 2017 in Atlanta, and I wanted to immediately stop attending the rest of the convention to gleefully devour this book in my hotel room-these books are just THAT good.

Andrews' other series are Urban Fantasy (for example, Kate Daniels, one of the best series out there ever, in my opinion!), but the Hidden Legacy series is a little heavier on the romance, making it a paranormal romance rather than straight up paranormal. Andrews pumps up the sex scenes, titillating for those of us used to the slightly lower level of steaminess of Andrews' Urban Fantasy style.

Private eye Nevada Baylor is trying to hold her family's investigation agency together. She reluctantly worked with Connor Rogan, aka Mad Rogan, on a prior case in book 1, BURN FOR ME. While she's powerfully attracted to the billionaire who is a Prime- the highest level of magic user, she's trying to resist what she feels Is a fatal attraction. When a new case brings her back into Rogan's orbit, she swallows her resentment and works with this mesmerizing man to help her client find his wife's murderer. I love Nevada's prickliness and Rogan's alpha maleness that is slowly being tempered under Nevada's influence. With lush worldbuilding and fantastic characters, WHITE HOT is a gripping read that keeps me panting for more.

SUMMARY

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close- knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …
