Romance Historical

THE UNTOUCHABLE EARL is the second book in the Fallen Ladies series by Amy Sandas and the second book I read by this great author. Although this book can be read as a stand alone I highly recommend reading the first one in the series before you read THE UNTOUCHABLE EARL.

Lily Chadwick has always felt ordinary and not special like her sisters, one strong and the other one bold; she has been quiet and secretly reading erotic novels. But when a moneylender snatches her off the street and put her up for auction at a pleasure house, she isn't sure anymore that she can settle into a passionless marriage. The reclusive Earl of Harte has a painful secret; he can't bear to be touched by anybody, since it causes him physical pain. He has been trying to keep his secret by keeping the world at arm's length. But when he finds the innocent Miss Lily in the brothel he can't let her be ruined and become another man mistress, so he decides to bid the highest price for her.

Amy Sandas's writing is beautiful and captivating, I absolutely enjoy reading her books. I loved her first book in this series LUCK IS NO LADY so much and was looking forward to read Lily's story. The story started strong with Lily being abducted and saved by the reclusive Earl of Harte, but after a couple of chapters the storyline changed, it becomes mostly the description of hero physical sensations and discomfort with touching and pain. I think since I had read about Lily's abduction and her mysterious savior in the first book I had expected a different plot with more dangers and adventures. Still, even I found the story slow, I loved Amy Sandas's writing and enjoyed THE UNTOUCHABLE EARL, and I can't wait to read her next book.

SUMMARY

"Are you afraid?"
"Yes," she replied in a soft voice. "But I love the way you frighten me."

Lily Chadwick has spent her life playing by society's rules. But when an unscrupulous moneylender snatches her off the street and puts her up for auction at a pleasure house, she finds herself in the possession of a man who makes her breathless with terror and impossible yearning...

Though the reclusive Earl of Harte claimed Lily with the highest bid, he hides a painful secret-one that has kept him from knowing the pleasure of a lover's touch. Even the barest brush of skin brings him physical pain, and he's spent his life keeping the world at arms' length. But there's something about Lily that maddens him, bewitches him, compels him...and drives him toward the one woman brave and kind enough to seek to heal his troubled heart.
