Mystery Cozy

Shadow may be a cat, yet he knows a thing or two about the two-legged folk and he likes the ones like the Generous one who gives him lots of fish tidbits. Now what is happening with him and where are his fish treats? Unknown to Shadow, a number of unusual things are happening in the small town of Kittery Harbor in Maine and it is not only a major winter storm. Shadow is determined to sniff out what is going on.

Meanwhile, his two-legged owner, Sunny Coolidge, is striving to fix some software where she works at the Maine Adventure X-perience (MAX for short), but is concerned about others in her life. As a break from her office work, she strives to get a handle on what is going on with Neil Garret and what is happening (or not) with his seafood shop. It had started off so well but now seems to be in a deep slump and not just from the winter season. Finding a dead body in his deep freezer is not going to help him either. What can she do about?

Well-known for cozy mysteries and story telling abilities, best selling author Claire Donally's CATCH AS CAT CAN is the fifth book in her Sunny and Shadow Mystery series. As this book is my first introduction to the series, I can certainly endorse that it reads very well as a stand-alone cozy mystery. Given that, I am sure fans of Donally's earlier books will be sure to lap up this latest addition and savor how Shadow has been sharping his claws and his detective skills while Sunny, along with her boyfriend Chief Inspector Will Price, strive to make sense of the information they gather about the unusual murder and other happenings in their small town, including just what Will's new lovely sidekick is up to.

If you like cozy mysteries, there is a lot to enjoy in CATCH AS CAT CAN right from its delightful cover, the likeable characters to its surprising ending. The story is well-plotted with intriguing twists and a nice balancing act between Sunny and Shadow and their relationship with others. CATCH AS CAT CAN is a definite treat for cat loving fans, so get your copy and curl up with it for a lovely cat-satisfying read!

SUMMARY

The new Sunny and Shadow mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of Hiss and Tell and Last Licks.

When a new seafood shop opens in Kittery Harbor, Maine, Sunny’s tomcat Shadow is on the hunt for tasty treats—until Sunny discovers a cold-blooded killer’s catch of the day.

Neil Garret is new to town, but his seafood shop is already going belly up. Working next door, former reporter Sunny Coolidge can’t help noticing the telltale signs. But checking on Neil one morning reveals something far worse for business than a lack of inventory—a mysterious man lies murdered in his freezer.

Sunny’s boyfriend, Chief Investigator Will Price, nets Neil as the prime suspect. But even when Sunny learns about Neil’s secret past, the open-and-shut case seems fishy. Now it’s up to Sunny to find the real culprit and get Neil off the hook.
