Graphic Novel

Olivia Silverlock has returned to school after suffering a devastating loss, she is a changed person. Olivia has a new group of friends who have set up a detective agency, believing it is their job to protect the academy from the evil in Gotham. Using her new ability to see ghosts, Olivia, along with her friends discover a man-bat, a werewolf and of course ghost.

CALAMITY is a very exciting graphic novel written for the younger crowd, definitely not your Dark Knight, but interesting to read a new take on characters. They even have Damian Wayne go to school there for a short time. Kinda neat to see him playing with Batman's toys. So it's not too shocking to see the appearance of Red Robin.

The artwork is well done drawing the eye to where it belongs on the pages and pictures, because without those it would just be a short story. Of course the storyline makes you keep reading and not just looking at the picture, giving life to what is drawn. The authors and artist were able to do that with GOTHAM ACADEMY VOLUME 2: CALAMITY and hopefully it will bring in a new generation of fans into the DC world.

SUMMARY

The sensational award-winning series continues and welcomes the academy’s newest transfer, Damian Wayne, as writers Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher team with artists Karl Kerschl and Mingjue Helen Chen.

At the beginning of the term, Olive Silverlock returned to Gotham Academy as a shadow of her former self. But thanks to her new friends and their Detective Club sleuthing, Olive was finally starting to feel whole again.

But now, Olive is seeing ghosts. A spectral, robed figure is haunting the Academy-and haunting Olive in particular, appearing to her and giving sinister instructions. Could this spirit be the key to unlocking the secrets of her family’s dark past? Or is Olive simply losing her grip on reality?

Collects GOTHAM ACADEMY #7-12 and DC SNEAK PEEK: GOTHAM ACADEMY #1.
