Romance Suspense | Thriller Psychological

Victoria Albridge has been a patient at Fairfax with her infant daughter Evelyn for the last three years. She can't remember anything of her life before her admission to Fairfax. They say her husband is dead, but he comes to visit her every evening. When Victoria stops taking her medication, she begins to feel as though she no longer belongs in Fairfax, and in order to leave, she must untangle her past.

When Victoria is visited by handsome stranger, who claims to know her, Victoria begins to wonder just how much of what Sinclair Montgomery tells her about herself is the truth. More importantly, how can she trust what he is telling her? When she begins to look further into his claim to visit her, Victoria realizes that his name is not only on the visitors log every day but that he is also on her list of people who are not allowed to visit her. Why would a man that claims to know her not be allowed to visit with her?

Through an assortment of photos her doctor shows her during her sessions, Victoria's memories slowly start to reveal the events of her past that led her to Fairfax. Her marriage to Wes Donovan, prominent attorney, his sporadic behavior, their failing marriage, and the missing pieces she found in the arms of another man. However, as Victoria is slowly remembering the good times, the doubt starts to creep in. If she has forgotten so many good times, what about the bad times?

Calia Read's psychological suspense series continues with UNHINGE. UNHINGE is told in Victoria's point of view in her present state with flashbacks into her past as she goes through the photos in her file. It's not until almost the end of the story do you finally reach the time period that landed Victoria in Fairfax. The story line is so well written the reader has no clue what is about to transpire. As book two in the Fairfax series, these books can be read in order of release date or as a stand alone. However, once you get a taste of this exhilarating series, you will be craving more. I hope Calia Read is not done with the patients at Fairfax just yet; I cannot wait to read Reagan's story!

SUMMARY

In Calia Read’s electrifying and steamy novel of psychological suspense, a handsome stranger shatters a beautiful young woman’s picture-perfect vision of her past. Hold your breath and count to ten. Soon it will be over before it ever began. No matter how many times Victoria Donovan repeats that phrase to herself, she’s still trapped behind the walls of a mental institution. Once upon a time, her life was like a fantasy: Wes, the handsome fiancé, followed by a storybook wedding and a white picket fence. But then a picture- perfect marriage twisted into something sinister. And as Victoria’s world warped from dream to nightmare, her husband’s obsessions pushed her beyond the breaking point. At first Fairfax Mental Health Institute seems like a safe place for Victoria to heal with her baby, Evelyn, and to hide from Wes, presumed dead by everyone except Victoria. Her husband is still alive, she has no doubt: He slips into her room at night to torment and tempt her. One smoldering kiss and she’s powerless. Of course, no one believes her about these visits. When she meets a sexy, mysterious stranger intent on helping her recall her past, Victoria isn’t sure she can trust him. But deep in her heart, she also knows that the only way out of Fairfax is to remember the way she came in.
