Bureau of Special Investigations Agent Brynner Carson
makes his own rules, often defying agency mandates.
Brynner excels at sending animated corpses back into the
grave, but the latest corpse he faces has an actual
message for him, both verbally and in strange
hieroglyphics. Brynner's father, Heinrich Carson, stole a
heart the Re-Animus controlling the corpse wants
back. Senior Analyst Grace Roberts is both a skeptic and
an excellent translator and thus her services are
requested. Can Grace and Brynner learn to work together
while the Re-Animus escalates its attacks on them both?
J.C. Nelson is one of my go-to authors for fast-paced
quirky and slightly outrageous but oh-so-fun stories so I
couldn't resist seeing how J.C. Nelson would approach a
zombie story. I love that J.C. Nelson provides a unique
perspective with the concept of the Re-Animus controlling
the various corpses as it gives us a reason for the
walking corpses. The twist about the missing heart
definitely kept me intrigued throughout the storyline. I
would have liked more background on the Re-Animus as we
gets hints and theories as to what drives the various
reanimations but I have so many questions that I would
love to see answered in a future book (and yes, this is
most definitely a hint!).
J.C. Nelson always creates intriguing characters and THE
REBURIALISTS is no exception. I initially wasn't wild
over Brynner, as he is most definitely a rake when it
comes to women and the opening scene with him emphasizes
this. Grace, on the other hand, is not your typical urban
fantasy heroine as she is more into intellectual analysis
than butt-kicking. Even better, we get to see her
intellectual prowess in action as her quick thinking aids
Brynner on more than one occasion.
THE REBURIALISTS is exactly the sort of urban fantasy
delight I expect from a J.C. Nelson story! If you like
your urban fantasy stories slightly twisted and
outrageous with a solid dose of action, then THE
REBURIALISTS is exactly your cup of tea. I can't wait to
see what J.C. Nelson cooks up for us next while keeping
my fingers crossed that THE REBURIALISTS is the start of
a new series!
At the Bureau of Special Investigations, agents encounter
all sorts of paranormal evils. So for Agent Brynner Carson,
driving a stake through a rampaging three-week-old corpse
is
par for the course. Except this cadaver is different. It’s
talking—and it has a message about his father, Heinrich.
The reanimated stiff delivers an ultimatum written in
bloody
hieroglyphics, and BSI Senior Analyst Grace Roberts is
called in to translate. It seems that Heinrich Carson stole
the heart of Ra-Ame, the long-dead god of the Re-Animus.
She
wants it back. The only problem is Heinrich took the secret
of its location to his grave.
With the arrival of Ra-Ame looming and her undead army
wreaking havoc, Brynner and Grace must race to find the key
to stopping her. It’s a race they can’t afford to lose, but
then again, it’s just another day on the job . . .
