The Duke of Ravenwood doesn't like crowds or parties; he has serious responsibilities. When he marries, his duchess will be just as proper as he is and will assure his legacy. It certainly wouldn't be someone like Miss Katherine Ross. However pretty and vivacious she might appear, she is a hoyden. Kate doesn't want to marry mostly because of the children she would have to bear. She is content with being a spinster and living with her beloved Aunt Havens. She is dedicated to the arts, she flouts conventions, she associates with people The Duke would surely snub. Aunt Havens is becoming more and more absent-minded and one little forgotten pail of water is about to completely upend Kate and The Duke's lives...
Even readers who seldom cry, such as myself, better be prepared and have a few hankies ready, I know I needed a couple. The Dukes of War is one of my favourite series, if not "the one" that will remain close to my heart forever. Every instalment of this series is superb, and THE DUKE'S ACCIDENTAL WIFE could be the best of those seven books. I had been waiting for so long for the story of the icy duke, and it was well worth the wait. Ravenwood had remained a very enigmatic character, and in THE DUKE'S ACCIDENTAL WIFE, we get to know his many fascinating facets; what a wonderful character he is. Kate is no less fascinating; she is bubbly, as spontaneous as The Duke seems detached from everything except his dukely duties. And her relationship with her Aunt Havens is touching and so genuine. The romance between The Duke and Kate is one of the most beautiful, tender, and honest I have ever read. To not be affected would be to have a heart much colder than said Duke. And the story of Aunt Havens nearly broke my heart.
THE DUKE'S ACCIDENTAL WIFE is splendidly written, the story flows so seamlessly and is so captivating, I started the book, I had to stop to blow my nose a few times, but I kept on reading until the end of the magnificent epilogue. THE DUKE'S ACCIDENTAL WIFE is a must-read for any self-respecting historical romance aficionado, and if you have not read the previous six instalments, do yourself a favour and do it.
Miss Katherine Ross is a wealthy, eccentric socialite who knows precisely what she wants: No husband. No children. No candlelit tête-à-tête with the insufferably emotionless Duke of Ravenwood. She's convinced his heart is ice -- until she touches that chiseled chest for herself. One lapse in judgment is all it takes to turn both their lives topsy- turvy... The Duke of Ravenwood isn't cold and haughty, but a secret romantic who has always dreamt of marrying for love. Instead, he gets Miss Katherine Ross -- a headstrong hoyden intent on unraveling his carefully ordered world. He doesn't know whether to kiss her or throttle her. Can they survive each other's company long enough to turn a compromise into love?
