Romance

A long time ago I read a short story I absolutely loved. I kept the authors name in the recess of my mind and when I saw RENDEZVOUS IN POINT REYES by Elisabeth Barrett I was so excited. It was indeed like revisiting an old friend. RENDEZVOUS IN POINT REYES is a story about breaking away from what is safe and routine and taking a chance on something new and exciting. Sometimes that something is right in front of your eyes, but you just never noticed. Elisabeth Barrett wants her characters to take notice.

Lifelong friends, dependable, loving, caring, practically a member of the family, but what happens when you realize your feelings have changed, evolved, and you see that good friend through different eyes? When you start wishing there was more to your friendship.

RENDEZVOUS IN POINT REYES is a little study of two good friends who react to their new attraction with guarded excitement about this new relationship and thoughts about the future. Where could it go, and if nowhere then is your current friendship in jeopardy? What a price to pay— perhaps too large a price and that's the guts of the issue for Stella. She can't afford to lose Jason as a beloved, trusted friend. But at the same time she wants to let go of her reluctance and worry and go for it.

Stella takes a much needed break from the family wine business and journeys into another family owned operation— this one centers on cheeses. So you are probably asking yourself—what goes better with a wine tasting than an exquisite cheese or two. And herein lies the core of this romantic tale about second chances.

Jason Roberts is the owner of this cheese making operation called Rough Ranch, but there was nothing rough about this man. In fact he is as smooth as his yummy cheese. He is also very familiar to Stella; Jason is her brother Liam's best friend. But the way Jason looks at Stella had nothing to do with his friendship to Liam.

One of the reasons Stella had taken this little vacation break away from Napa Valley was her angst at spending yet another Valentine's Day watching lovers with their dewy eyes. And yet here she is at Rough Ranch and finds Jason looking at her as much more than just a friend. Just what was going on here? Is it her vivid imagination or is Jason actually flirting with her. Or is she just dreaming about being the object of someone's passion—something that had definitely been lacking in her now defunct marriage.

Valentine's Day is a holiday for lovers. Stella and Jason need this time together to see if there really is anything brewing between these two friends. It just might be a match made in heaven.

Have you met Elisabeth Barrett? I can't think of a better introduction to a romantic at heart than with RENDEZVOUS IN POINT REYES. Barrett brings the story alive with her spot on dialog which at times makes you laugh at loud.

SUMMARY

For shy, quiet Stella Flynn, love is an illusion. After a rough divorce, all she wants is to make a fresh start and get on with her life. Unfortunately, she spends all her waking hours working at her family’s Napa Valley winery alongside her ex, the assistant winemaker. Unable to bear the thought of spending another weekend surrounded by lovey-dovey couples, especially after suffering through a lonely holiday season, she escapes to Point Reyes to wallow. Little does she know that an old family friend has other plans …

Sexy, free-spirited Jason Roberts has secretly been in love with Stella for years. The problem? She’s his best friend’s younger sister, and Stella’s brother would kill him if he ever broke her heart. Besides, Jace is pretty sure that Stella thinks of him like another brother, not a lover. But then he notices the way she’s looking at him, and one perfect kiss changes everything.

Over a long, romantic weekend, Stella and Jace discover that seduction is a game that’s easy to lose … and that the path from friends to lovers is never as smooth as it seems.
