THE WARRIOR VAMPIRE is Book 2 in Kate Baxter's Last True
Vampire series. Readers new to the series will be able
to follow along without too much confusion because the
vampire mythology is explained for the new non-vampire
characters. THE WARRIOR VAMPIRE pairs a warrior witch
with a sexy vampire in distress. I like that THE WARRIOR
VAMPIRE has a little bit of a role reversal compared to
some other stories, and has the heroine protect and help
her big burly vampire hero.
When Naya Morales is out patrolling for rogue magic
users, she encounters Ronan—a vampire in a really bad
state, who later seems to have retrograde amnesia. Ronan
is the enigmatic tall, dark stranger who speaks to Naya
in a way that unsettles and captivates her. There are a
few obstacles to Ronan and Naya's happiness, as well as a
few mysteries that may or may not be connected. I love
the classic film noir feeling that permeates THE WARRIOR
VAMPIRE. There is a wonderful sensuality to the romance
as Naya and Ronan stalk the city streets looking for
villains that manifest as sinister magical creatures. The
mystery of who is behind the influx of dangerous
mapinguari, the disappearance of Ronan's sister Chelle
and what happened to her, and the puzzle of what happened
to Ronan before he met Naya during a period of time he
can't account for, drives the story along at a fast pace
and keeps the reader engaged and invested in the outcome.
One of the things I love about the romance between Naya
and Ronan is that they are equally powerful, yet in
different ways. Even though Ronan might occasionally
think it might be easier for him to protect Naya if she
obeyed him, he appreciates and likes that she is such a
force to be reckoned with, and a fighter. Kate Baxter
does a great job of building the sexual tension and
anticipation in THE WARRIOR VAMPIRE. The one-on-one
moments between Naya and Ronan are intensely erotic and
combustible. I enjoyed how the hero and heroine work
together to solve their problems—both personal and
the
more altruistic goal of protecting their community from
uber villains.
THE WARRIOR VAMPIRE is a sensual delight and full of
mystery and suspense. The hero and heroine are explosive
together, and that makes for a super steamy read. The
heroine has everyday problems like balancing her own
needs with those of others, while fighting evildoers and
falling in love. I look forward to hearing more about
Jenner, Chelle, and Naya's cousin Luz in future books.
The vampire was built for sin, every inch of him tight
and bulky with corded muscle. A killer, that much was
apparent, and she couldn't help but wonder if his appetite
for violence would rival his appetites for
other...things.
A WOMAN SEDUCED
Naya Morales is no ordinary mortal. Born with a shaman's
power, she has devoted her life to tracking down stolen
magic-and punishing those who take it. But one fateful
night, she follows the alluring call of a sensual magic
that
is too glorious to be true-and finds herself face to face
with a stunningly handsome thief who is too magnificent to
resist...
A VAMPIRE ENSLAVED From the
moment he sees her, Ronan knows Naya is his mate. Driven by
a deep, almost mystical connection, he aches for her body,
hungers for her blood, and swears their souls are anchored
together. Naya refuses to believe the words of a vampire-or
risk the wrath of her tribe. But when she tries to make
Ronan her prisoner, neither chains of silver nor fires of
hell can help her escape the truth: she is the one
who's been captured, in The Warrior Vampire by Kate
Baxter.
