Phyllis tries her best not to be part of the
investigation into the death of a local surgeon but
nothing goes as planned. Phyllis and Carolyn are gearing
up for another baking competition while Sam is looking
for a dog to adopt.
Sam has brought Phyllis to the local shelter, and while
they are looking at the dogs, one of the workers brings
in a dog that has been hit by a car. Sam jumps into gear
and takes the dog to a vet, Dr. Baxter who is so
good with Sam's new dog, Buck, both Sam and Phyllis are
impressed with his gentleness.
Dr. Baxter and his wife are having marital problems, but
he really loves her. When his wife is found murdered,
the police arrest him since they were heard
having a fight earlier that morning. Sam tries to
investigate on his own,
but he isn't getting
very far so he begs Phyllis to help him. When Dr.
Baxter's lawyer hears the two of them are investigating,
he hires them as consultants.
One little slip of the tongue will lead Phyllis in a
direction the police never considered.
Ms. Washburn continues her Fresh-Baked Mysteries
with
TRICK OR DEADLY TREAT. The former teacher and her
friends get involved in another mystery just before
Halloween. Phyllis and Sam are pushed to find the killer
before Dr. Baxter loses his practice. TRICK OR DEADLY
TREAT is a welcome
addition to the series. The
characters are so much fun; although I am wondering when
Phyllis and Sam are going to admit their feelings for
each other. The mystery is well-crafted and will keep
the reader intrigued as they follow the clues.
It’s Halloween in Weatherford, Texas—which means Phyllis
Newsom is baking up a storm of yummy seasonal treats...but
she’s about to get even busier unmasking a killer.
While Phyllis and her friend Carolyn are
preparing for a baking contest, her housemate Sam adopts
Buck, an adorable Dalmatian who was hit by a car. To thank
local veterinarian Hank Baxter for helping the dog, Phyllis
and Carolyn bake a batch of doggie treats for his other
four-legged patients.
But when they arrive at the
clinic, the vet is in the process of being arrested—for the
murder of his wife! Convinced that the police are barking up
the wrong tree and that someone’s been burying evidence, Sam
begs Phyllis to help find the real killer. Joined by Buck,
the friends engage in a dogged pursuit of the murderer, who
will stop at nothing to muzzle
them…permanently.
