With the old city crime boss dead, the vermin is crawling
out of the woodwork to gain control of the Dallas
underworld, even Albanians are part of the race. While
getting ready to hit a warehouse where a burglary is
being committed, the Dallas SWAT team is nonplussed when
they smell werewolves. The team, being werewolves
themselves, had no idea there was another pack in the
city, let alone criminals. In the middle of the fracas,
Officer Eric Becker notices the most beautiful woman he
has ever seen. She seems to be one of the thieves, but
most troubling is her scent: could she be the elusive
soul mate he has been told about, The One ?
Without thinking, he hides her, thus preventing her from
being caught, and he is almost as surprised as she is by
his spontaneous gesture. He cannot stop thinking
about the mysterious werewolf, Jayna Winston, but
searching for her gets Eric into much more trouble than
he could ever imagine.
The very creative Paige Tyler broadens her shifter
mythology in her latest SWAT offering, IN THE COMPANY OF
WOLVES, introducing the omegas, loner werewolves,
who are unable to control their animal, unstable and
unreliable, and the betas, who have an even
stronger pack mentality than the alphas. Most
interesting is that even our SWAT alphas don't know
everything about werewolves. The new villains in town,
the Albanian crime lords, are almost too convincingly
creepy! The dynamics between the various factions
of bad guys is mystifying, and all too realistic, and the
appearance of Jayna in Eric's life threatens the survival
of the SWAT pack.
Ms. Tyler has again created wonderfully complex
characters. It's impossible not to care and identify with
Jayna, while Eric is definitely my favourite SWAT hero to
date -- until the next one, maybe! He is all alpha when it
comes to his job, but he is a very caring and gentle man,
as he proves to Jayna. He has no doubt that she is his
One whereas she harbours doubts, but still, he
lets her decide how to proceed where their future is
concerned. Eric and Jayna go from friends to more, which
leads to wonderfully tender and playful sex scenes. As
for the action part, well, hang on to your hats: Paige
Tyler can write action scenes like no one else, and in
this book, she goes all out! Being IN THE COMPANY OF
WOLVES has never been better!
He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had
aimed at him, but nothing would
come out. It was like she'd robbed him of the ability to
speak. Shooting her wasn't an option,
though. And the idea of arresting her didn't make him feel
any better.
There's a new gang of criminals in town who are organized
and ruthless in the extreme. When
Eric Becker, along with the rest of the Dallas SWAT team,
ends up in the middle of a shootout, he
immediately senses werewolves-a lot of them. Turns out, the
new bad guys are a pack of wolf
shifters.
In a spray of gunfire, Becker comes face-to-face with the
most gorgeous woman he's ever seen.
Becker does the logical thing. He hides her and leaves the
scene with the rest of his team.
Jayna Winston has no idea why that SWAT guy helped her, but
she's glad he did. Ever since she
and her pack mates got mixed up with those Eastern European
mobsters, everything had pretty
much fallen apart.
So what's a street-savvy thief like Jayna going to do with a
hot alpha-male wolf who's a police
officer?
