One King's Way

Romance Contemporary

Even when you thought it was over, it really isn't. Samantha Young returns with yet another novella set in the On Dublin Street world. ONE KING'S WAY is all about Craig, a character that readers may be familiar with if they have followed the series. Craig has always been seen as the flirt, the man who gets plenty of female attention. But for whatever reason, we don't see that charm come into play as much in this book. Or perhaps it's more due to the fact that the heroine, Rain Alexander, doesn't allow him to charm her.

Rain has a major chip on her shoulder. She's mean, snarky, and to be honest, it's not a nice combination. She has revenge on her mind and she'll do whatever it takes to see it through. While Young does this convincingly, it doesn't paint the heroine in a good light at all. I couldn't stand her and her emotional manipulation. Any banter that Young tried to put into this book was blocked by Rain's attitude. I don't know what Craig found likable about her, and that really affected my reading.

The revenge plot seemed asinine and petty, creating more harm than growth. Rain's character was not redeemable in the least so I was a little disappointed that Craig ended up with her. I would have preferred someone who actually deserves his love.

The ending of ONE KING'S WAY was rushed and the emotions seemed to be compartmentalized instead of being dealt with fully. Samantha Young is typically able to make me laugh and fall in love with her stories. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.

SUMMARY

The New York Times bestselling author of On Dublin Street returns to the bar where it all began with Braden and Joss for a white-hot new novella full of passion and drama. When he’s not working at the club, Craig Lanaghan looks out for his mother and little sisters. So when it comes to women, all he wants is a good time. But once Rain Alexander walks into his life, there’s no denying that this woman could be worth much more than a one-night stand…. Rain’s lifelong regret is having left her sister Darcy alone years ago with a guardian who turned out to be abusive. So when Darcy’s boyfriend publicly humiliates her in a cruel way, Rain’s overprotective instincts kick in and she follows him to Club 39—where she meets a guy who just might be her perfect match. The chemistry between Rain and Craig is explosive, but Rain is out for revenge, and refuses to be sidetracked by flirtation. As things between them heat up, she’ll have to make a heartbreaking choice between giving in to the man of her dreams or putting her sister’s happiness first….
