FOREVER YOUR EARL is the first book by Eva Leigh in her new
series Wicked Quills of London.
Eleanor Hawke is the owner and publisher of The Hawk's Eye.
The newspaper office publishes the scandalous news of the Lords and Ladies
of the ton. So when Daniel Balfour, the
notorious Earl of Ashford, marches into her office
and invites her to experience his illicit pursuits
firsthand, Eleanor is stunned and excited about the opportunity.
Daniel Balfour has his own reason and secret to invite
Eleanor in his scandalous adventures to distract her from
learning about his missing friend.
The first chapter of FOREVER YOUR EARL started
interesting and seemed to be a story with a great plot and
delightful banter between the hero and heroine. Daniel has
been looking for his friend Jonathan, the heir of the duke,
with Jonathan's sister for the past month. Daniel doesn't
want anybody to learn about it and to prevent the huge scandal
about the missing heir so he decides to distract Eleanor.
After reading a few chapters, I wondered why he took her
to the places she has not even heard about in the middle of the night, which
didn't have anything to do with the plot. Plus, there was no way she could
have found out about the missing heir by herself and her team.
I must say if I were a new reader to historical romance,
this story would have been exciting with the heroine
dressing up as a man and going to gambling halls, masquerades, or
phaeton races. But for me it felt like I am reading the
scenes I have read before in so many historical romances and
it didn't have anything to do with the main plot of finding
Jonathan.
I liked Eva Leigh's writing. It was witty with delightful
banter and I would like to read more books by her, but FOREVER YOUR EARL
was a slow-paced read and the plot was not thrilling
for me.
Eva Leigh's irresistible new series introduces the
Wicked Quills of
London: a group of bold, brilliant female writers whose
spirited allure
is beyond seductive . . .
Eleanor Hawke loves a
good
scandal. And readers of her successful gossip rag live for
the exploits
of her favorite subject: Daniel Balfour, the notorious Earl
of Ashford.
So when the earl himself marches into her office and
invites her to
experience his illicit pursuits firsthand, Eleanor is
stunned. Gambling
hells, phaeton races, masquerades . . . What more could a
scandal
writer want than a secret look into the life of this
devilishly
handsome rake?
Daniel has secrets, and if The
Hawk's Eye
gets wind of them, a man's life could be at stake. And what
better way
to distract a gossip than by feeding her the scandal she
desperately
craves? But Daniel never expected the sharp mind and biting
wit of the
beautiful writer, and their desire for each other threatens
even his
best-laid plans.
But when Eleanor learns the truth of
his
deception, Daniel will do anything to prove a romance
between a
commoner and an earl could really last forever.
