The man Summer Redding had blindingly loved back in
college had died in the horrible Washington Massacre along
with his whole family. She had grieved the loss of the
golden boy until she looks into the eyes of a homeless
man and realizes that no one but Jack Delvaux has eyes like
MIDNIGHT FIRE. Jack is alive!
Jack is no longer the carefree, foolish, unthinking
man of his youth. As a fifteen year veteran of the CIA, he
is hardened, and now with his family -- except for his sister
Isabel -- dead, he is nearly soulless. The only thing keeping
him going is the truth his family's death was not by the
terrorists everyone believes. Now, Summer has returned to
his life and it has put hers in danger. They will have to
work together to get the truth out, avenge his family, and
survive. On top of that he must make her see he is no
longer a callous young fool but a man who knows what he
wants -- and what he wants is a life with Summer.
MIDNIGHT FIRE is a non-stop, action-packed, don't-you-dare-put-me-down
book. This one picks up where author Lisa Marie
Rice's MIDNIGHT SECRETS ends. His sister Isabel is safe
and in the protective hands of the Alpha Security
International (ASI) so Jack is ready to go back and dig up
the truth. Then suddenly Summer comes crashing back into
his world. I liked both of these people and understood Jack's need for the
truth, and
as I read I wondered how Summer had managed to become the
level-headed woman she is. Her parents were self-centered druggies who
dragged her around the world then
forgot she existed. I loved the fact that we got another
look at Isabel and the ASI guys and gals as they helped
Jack and Summer solve the massacre and stop the bad guys.
If I had one complaint it would be that everything was
wrapped up too abruptly. We've been waiting for the
massacre to be solved but not quite in this "okay, it is done"
way. Aside from that I was thrilled with this offering. It
has action, romance, steamy moments, recurring characters,
and good guys beating out the bad guys. Who could ask for
more? Well, except for maybe a few more romantic suspense
reads from this amazing author.
Summer Redding thought the blindingly handsome jock who'd
loved and left her years ago had died in the Washington
Massacre. She grieved for her lost golden boy as the rest of
the country mourned their dead—until she comes home to find
a very alive Jack Delvaux waiting for her with a devastating
secret that turns her life upside down.
No longer the carefree man he was in his youth, this Jack is
dark, hard and dangerous; a fifteen-year veteran of the CIA
hungry for answers…and hungry for her. The rich,
good-looking charmer who broke her heart once before would
have been easy to resist, but this man, this powerful man?
Summer needs him, and he knows it.
When Jack's mission uncovers evidence of government
involvement in the Massacre—and plans for another
attack—he's primed for revenge. But he has more than
vengeance to live for now, and when Summer's life is
threatened, it's nearly Jack's undoing. Someone taking shots
at his woman? That's a dead man walking.
