Suspense | Romance Suspense

Love is a many splendored thing. Songs have a way of making events very special, remembered. Sometimes it's just a line or phrase that triggers a happy memory. Memories are a wondrous part of being alive. In THE LAST TIME I SAW HER, Karen Robards has several crucial characters and in this story memory is a character of its own. Do you believe in ghosts or visions? If not then Karen Robards is going to make you a believer. I guarantee that. Having read all three of the previous Dr. Charlie Stone books I was prepared to be swept off my feet by one of the indisputably best crime novelists. Karen Robards has a legacy of awe-inspired mystery stories with just the right amount of romance to make you smile as you anticipate the next discovery or twist. THE LAST TIME I SAW HER is one that will stay with you long after you've closed the book.

Now here's the tricky part. The basic story revolves around Charlie's ongoing relationship with Michael Garland. Oh, did I mention Michael is a ghost? He was murdered in jail after being convicted of serial killings. Charlie is a psychiatrist who has been studying inmates, in particular serial murderers. But Charlie and Michael have developed a unique relationship. He claims he is innocent. All murderers do. But Charlie's gut and heart tells her that Michael is innocent. Doesn't seem to matter much considering he is now dead.

But the plot thickens in true Karen Robards style. People we never heard of are asking questions. At first Charlie is unsettled by this stranger who looks just like Michael and is practically stalking her. Just what is his purpose or motive in asking all these questions about cases Charlie has studied?

Charlie has one goal -- to clear Michael. Could this man have information that would help her -- or is he out to stop Charlie from uncovering what really happened?

Too easy, right? Well, not to worry. Robards is going to take us on quite a journey. Charlie is going to have to fight the proverbial devil to keep alive and she is once again going to have to rely on Michael. But how can a spirit fight flesh and blood murderers? In Robards imagination, that's how. And trust me when I say you will totally be along for the ride. Spookville will become part of your vocabulary.

Charlie sees ghosts. Karen Robards make sure you see them as well in THE LAST TIME I SAW HER. Ghost Whisperer fans are going to love this entire series. One of Robards best and that is saying something about a talented, prolific author who is the unabashed queen of drama and intrigue.

SUMMARY

In the sizzling new novel from New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards, Dr. Charlie Stone must prove the innocence of a dangerously sexy condemned man, or lose her one chance at true love. In this world, Dr. Charlotte “Charlie” Stone skillfully probes the twisted minds of incarcerated serial killers to better understand what makes them tick, and to help nab those who remain at large. But in the next world, Charlotte’s ghostly lover—convicted killer Michael Garland—is facing death yet again. It seem the only way Charlie can snatch Michael from the jaws of oblivion is by proving his innocence. And this dead man’s dead ringer may just be the key. A mysterious stranger has turned up in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Charlie is shocked to realize he could be Michael Garland’s identical twin. But she suspects the resemblance is only skin deep—and that behind the handsome face may lurk the perverse mind of a killer. While using all her keen profiling gifts, Charlie risks her life to discover the shocking secret that will clear Michael’s name. Then a breakout at Wallens Ridge State Prison forces Charlie to contend with a sudden swarm of psychopaths bent on spilling blood. No one has a better chance of tracking down the deadly fugitives than Charlie—unless the rampaging killers manage to find her first and make this case her last. But Michael will move heaven and hell—and even make a devil’s bargain—for the chance to save Charlie’s life, and feel her touch once more . . . if only for the final time.
