Dr. Shane Grey is not used to being the head hunter on a
case for the Rochester Division of the Execution
Underground. Typically, he stays more in the background,
assisting his fellow hunters with research and tech
support. Unfortunately, black magic is at work in their
latest murder case and Shane is the resident expert on
witches. Shane turns to Vera Sanders, a student in one of
his classes and a witch who reluctantly helped them on
one of their previous cases. Shane and Vera have every
reason in the world to mistrust one another but the
attraction between them is irresistible.
MIDNIGHT HUNTER is the third book in the Execution
Underground series but can easily be read as a
standalone. We met Vera in the prior book, IMMORTAL
HUNTER, and references are made to her earlier
involvement with the Rochester Division. Kait Ballenger
provides readers with all the back history they need to
fully appreciate MIDNIGHT HUNTER, but I can't imagine not
wanting to read every single book in the superb
Execution Underground series!
Kait Ballenger does a spectacular job at crafting
characters who are flawed but lovable. Both Vera and
Shane have secrets, some quite dark, and it's only if
they learn to trust one another that love can truly grow
between them. Vera and Shane seem like the most unlikely
of couples, as Shane is very professorial while Vera is
quite flashy. However, Kait Ballenger pours her magic
into the storyline and makes their red-hot romance work
as the sparks fly constantly between them.
I love the comparisons Kait Ballenger draws between the
allure of black magic and drug addiction. Vera Sanders
tries to resist the allure of black magic, but the
addiction draws her in. I was a little iffy about Vera as
a main character because I wasn't wild over her character
in IMMORTAL HUNTER but Kait Ballenger shows us another
side in MIDNIGHT HUNTER. In fact, Vera may be my favorite
heroine to date in the Execution Underground
series!
Kait Ballenger delivers another phenomenal paranormal
romance that is chock full of action, romance, and an
intriguing supernatural twist. I'm typically not a fan of
the professor/student romances but Kait Ballenger almost
makes me a fan with MIDNIGHT HUNTER. Kait Ballenger
continues to develop her phenomenal world with each new
installment in the Execution Underground series as
MIDNIGHT HUNTER is yet another winner!
Hunters of the supernatural, THE EXECUTION UNDERGROUND are
an elite group tasked with protecting humanity…but can dark
temptation destroy good intentions?
Occult specialist and witch hunter Dr. Shane Grey is called
upon to investigate a string of crimes that bear all the
hallmarks of black magic. But he can't take on this
daunting
assignment for the Execution Underground alone. He'll need
the help of Vera Sanders, a witch with a dark past—and a
woman who disturbs him as much as she intrigues him.
Vera is determined to ignore the dangerous chemistry
between
herself and Shane so she can prove her loyalty to his
cause;
otherwise she risks the wrath of the Execution Underground
once again. If she can't make Shane trust her, they won't
stand a chance in hell of defeating the evil that's
terrorizing their city. No easy task, considering old
habits
die hard…and Vera may be the very person responsible for
luring Shane into a killer's trap.
