Sarah' life was turned upside down when her son Cully was
killed in an avalanche. At least he was doing the thing he loved the most.
Sarah
is trying to deal with her loss. She is back at work, but
just can't wrap her mind around her job. Sarah had moved
her father in with her and Cully and it was a great bonding
moment for all of them until Cully's death.
One day, a young women shows up at the house asking if they
need help removing the snow. Even though they don't, they let Kit come back
and help. Somehow, Sarah feels a connection to Kit, but she doesn't
know why. Could it be because she is the same age as Cully, or is there more?
While cleaning out Cully's room with her friend Suzanne,
Sarah comes across something in his drawer that she is not
happy about. It seems Cully sold pot to people. Suzanne
tells her that it is no big deal, but Sarah is very upset.
Sarah and Suzanne get into an argument about this. Is it
only the pot or because all Suzanne wants to talk about is
her divorce?
Soon everything in Sarah's life seems to be lies. Cully's
father comes back into the picture and Kit's secret is revealed.
Sarah has a huge decision to make in her life.
Kaui Hart Hemmings writes a great book about THE
POSSIBILITES in life. No one can image what a parent or
any family member must go though when someone dies. Kaui's
storylines take you from sorrow to happiness. I really
like the way she has the characters interact with each
other. It just shows how your best friend can get on your
nerves, but yet they are always there for you.
Kaui Hart Hemmings also shows how one moment in time can
change any ones life in a heartbeat.
n the idyllic ski town of Breckenridge, Colorado, Sarah St.
John is reeling. Three months ago, her twenty-two-year-old
son, Cully, died in an avalanche. Sarah’s father, a retiree,
tries to distract her from her grief with gadgets from the
home shopping channel.
Sarah’s best friend offers life advice by venting details of
her own messy divorce. Even Cully’s father reemerges,
stirring more emotions and confusion than Sarah needs. But
Sarah feels she is facing the stages of grief—the anger, the
sadness, the letting go—alone; she desperately wants to hear
the swoosh of her son’s ski pants, or watch him skateboard
past her window.
And one day a strange girl arrives on her doorstep.
Unexpected and unexplained, she bears a secret from Cully
that could change all of their lives forever.
With wry wit and intuition, Kaui Hart Hemmings highlights
the subtle poignancies of grief and relationships in this
stunning look at people faced with impossible choices.
