In THE BOOK OF US, Emma, Amy and Danielle have been best friends for as
long as
they can remember. They are out for Emma's hen
party (bachelorette party). Driving to the next event of the evening, a
deer jumps dashes into the street, causing a life changing
accident. Amy is thrown though the windshield while Emma
and Danielle are trapped in the car.
Jack, an American in England getting inspiration for his next book, comes to
their rescue. Emma and Danielle are saved, but Amy doesn't survive. Before
she passes, the last words Amy says are "glad you forgive me."
Emma is not sure just what she meant.
As the days go by, Emma and Danielle are devastated by Amy's
death. Emma feels it is only right that she
postpones her marriage to Richard. Richard is pushing to
set a new date. Something is not right with him.
He appears as shaken about Amy's death as Emma is.
Not only is Emma trying to get over her
friend's death, but also trying to handle the fact that her
mum has memory loss.
Emma finds herself turning to Jack more and more. Could
she be falling for him? Is it only because he saved her, or
is there more?
Dani Atkins writes a great book. The storyline is
sweet and yet hard to deal with.
Three close friends, out for a good time, and it all ends in
tragic circumstances. I fell in love with these
characters, especially Emma and Jack. Both have had loss in their lives, but
find each other.
This book brought back a lot of memories for me. Whether you have lost
someone in a car
accident, or by any other manner, you'll find yourself deeply involved in THE
BOOK OF US.
